HI All

I'm 65 and when I attend my support groups all the others seem so much younger.

I had my surgery 5/28/14. On weighing myself the second week after my MD visit I had gained 3 lbs. This is very discouraging especially since the MD said to expect the greatest weight loss in the first month. I am following the guides given by the MD and the nut. I am walking 3-4 miles most days. Any other seniors out there having the same problem.

I wonder if you ate something to salty and retained fluids.

I am a firm believer in not stepping on the scale at home because it can be self defeating.

If you really have to weigh yourself at home do it once only, wearing the same thing each time and at the same time of day.

Feel better about this it will come off.

I am going in for my surgery tomorrow and this is my biggest fear. I have been dieting and exercising for years with yo yo effects. I think some times we put to much stress on ourselves and that can cause hormonal changes which can affect weight loss big time. I would just try to relax a bit (I know how hard that is, but you may just need it) If it continues talk to your nutritionist and doctor.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
