So I start my soft foods period today (oh thank god, finally) - and according to the plan we are given we are supposed to have no more than 3 oz's of food in a three hour period and we are expected to try to eat about every three hours to maintain a good amount of Protein etc. So... here is my thing. If my stomach is now about 1oz, that means I can only eat ~1oz at a time. So I have to eat 1oz over three hours. How long do I wait in between each hour, how long does it take the pouch to empty? Fer example, do I eat an oz, wait half an hour, eat an oz - wait another half an hour, eat the last oz and then count down three hours and start over?

This was probably covered in the transition to soft foods class I was supposed to go to today, but my partner is really sick so I couldn't go. The nutritionist who does the class is going to call me later today or tomorrow and go over the class with me by phone - but I thought I would ask on here too and see what I other people do. Thanks in advance for the advice!

P.S. Just how fast is normal for weight loss? I had surgery a week ago, and was on Clear liquids for two days before that. I have lost 25lbs. I know you can lose weight really fast, and granted I was nearly 450 before surgery, but dang.

Your new stomach expands and also empties quite quickly. I was told to eat that amount in 30 minutes, if I can't finish or feel full STOP. Every doc/nut is different. The take away is if you feel full stop, chew very well, take your time, no drinking.

Congrats on the weight loss! I am one week postop and have lost 14 lbs in 3 weeks (2 of those weeks were the liquid preop diet). I'm assuming the more you weigh the more you loose? But a normal range seems ~5lbs per week on average.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
