Made up my mind

Recommended Posts

I am real new to this site and in posting comments. I am a 56 year old gramma (they call me "Mimi"). I have decided to have a lap band and my first appointment with the surgeon is the 16th of this month. I have been to a seminar, researched this every which way I could and made my decision. I appreciate the comments from everyone even though at times it's made my head spin:). I look forward to this new season in my life. Happy a happy evening!!!:):):)

Welcome Mimi. I'll be 56 in a couple of months and am also a grandma. You may have read some of my posts but if not, in a nutshell, I had no life before the band. I was in tremendous pain because I had joint disease and could barely walk. I lost 70 lbs. and was able to get my hips replaced in October and now at more than 125 lbs. down, my life is almost normal again.

There's no way I can express how grateful I am to the band and how it's helped me. There's also no way I can express how grateful I am to the wonderful people on this forum who have helped me more than I can say.

Please keep us posted and let us know when the surgery will be scheduled.

Thank you to both of you ladies. I do understand the joint pain. I had my left knee replaced 2 1/2 years ago and the meniscus removed from my right knee 1 1/2 years ago. I have tried every weight loss program out there. My older sister passed away at the age of 54 and my older brother passed away at the age of 58. Both were from obesity related illnesses. As I got closer to the age of 60 I I really began to wonder if I was going to make it to 60. I am pretty healthy other than my weight. That may sound odd but I do not have diabetes yet or some of the other problems associated with being overweight. When I saw that my BMI was closing in on 40 I knew I had to change something. I am a hard worker and not a quitter. I am a two time cancer survivor and have much to live for. So here I am with this new journey ahead of me. I am excited yet nervous. But I know I can do this. Thank you for the words of encouragement and I will surely keep you posted!!:)

Thank you:). We just got home from Denver which is about two hours away from us. My surgeons office set all my pre-op appointments up for me today so I could get it all done at once. Everything is done and now I just wait for the 22nd. I appreciate the support!!:):).

From one Grandma to another you'll do great! I'm up there in age as well and when I met a 72 yr old who had it done I changed my attitude forever. I figured if she could have it done at her age so could I. I'm in my. 60's and feeling great!

Thank you. My date is the 22nd and I am starting to get a little nervous. It's like an excited nervousness--does that make sense? I know this is the right decision for me and I truly appreciate all of the responses I have received :). My grand kids wanted to go do the

Paddle boats tonight and I have to admit I just don't have the energy to do that. I know that will soon change and I look forward to being able to do the things I love to do and also the things my grandchildren like. Thanks again!!!

While your waiting, go to youtube and search out the 8 golden rules of lapband. They are Introduction part 1-4. Very good info.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
