why endoscopy, colonoscopy?

Recommended Posts

I had to have an endoscopy first, and I'm thankful I did. They found out I had a large ulcer that needed to be treated before I could even be rescheduled for surgery. I was supposed to have surgery 3/19. Also I was going to have the sleeve, but because that same endoscopy also showed that my GERD was worse than we thought, I switched to a gastric bypass bc it may actually help my acid reflux possibly and I will be having that surgery God willing 7/17. ☺️

I didn't have any procedures prior to surgery. I was only required to have my cardiologist do an ekg.

I'm so glad I did the endoscopy because they discovered I have barrettes esophagus which are pre cancer cells. It saved my life.i wanted the sleeve but was told I have to have gastric bypass instead.

Hey, I have Barrett's also & had the bypass instead of the sleeve. (:

My BE and hiatal hernia were discovered during an upper endoscopy, too. Even though only a small percentage of BE turns into cancer, I'm glad that a RNY stops the progression. It made my decision of which surgery much more cut and dry. 8.5 months post-op and I couldn't be happier!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
