Quick Question About The Pain

Recommended Posts

I had an uncomplicated laparascopic cholecystectomy about 7 years ago and am wondering if the pain/discomfort of a VSG is similar? Many thanks.

Personally just want to say one night in the hospital and home, I did not feel I even had surgery except for the small places with glue on my belly. I took it easy, but wondered if they really sleeved me. I could eat, and swallow, no problem. Was at the store in 2 days, and shopped at the mall 5 days later. TEN times easier, the surgery and recovery, than we expected. Still doing fantastic. I took one pain med the night I came home and none since, neither has my husband. Good luck!

I had surgery last Wednesday. I did not need pain killers. Sure there was a few times I stretched the stiched holes in my belly that smarted. When ever I sneezed, coughed or got in and out of a chair or bed, it hurt a bit. Today being day six I can sneeze with little discomfort.

Thanks for the reply, Linda. My lap chole went uneventfully, just bloated and gassy for a few days and unable to lift anything over 10 lbs for two weeks, so I am hopeful that the VSG will be equally uneventful.

Par1959 -- Thank you! I recall that "pulling" pain at the puncture sites after the lap chole. Nothing traumatic, just a good reminder to take it easy for a wee bit.

Yes, do not lift! I picked up something a few days after surgery because I felt so great, kind of scared me so I just rested that day. Just got uncomfortable aching.

i wonder the same! thanks to the OP for your question.

I have had a few surgeries in my time- a lap chole, ovarian tumor removal (benign), c-section, and ankle rebuild. I generally believe I have a good pain tolerance.

My doc generally requires 2 nights in hosp post op but he said he would let me go home after one if i am doing great.

PRAYING for an easy path, go home quick and little pain!!!!!

Hi there. Please don't get overly worried, the pain is really easily bearable. I personally needed a little pain relief for about 3 days mainly because of the bloaty windy feelings. The wind is uncomfortable but sip slowly and let it blow regardless and you will be fine. However you have had major surgery so be kind to yourself. I hope this all goes brilliantly for you.

Is everyone crushing their pills? I had one doc say no need as long as I take one at a time. But the RN who runs the program says crush till further notice! Crushing these makes me gag violently.

No need to crush. Some pills the doctor said do not crush. Some you can crush. We swallow many pills a day. No problem. The only thing I did right after surgery was find a great liquid Multivitamin because of the size of the pill Vitamin.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
