Recommended Posts

How did you do it. I will be fifty by the time I get sleeved, I want to lose around 123 pounds which puts me at 245 for goal weight. I would like to hear from those who lost the weight and how you did it.Gym,walking, running, biking that kinda stuff.

Thank You

paul

Hi Paul, I lost my weight in my late 40s, in maintenance now. It is very doable, follow the sleeve rules, eat small portions, focus on Protein and veggies, become active. You can do it!

Hi Paul,

I am 51 and I've lost 220lbs since getting sleeved 5/28 of 2013. I followed the plan given to me by my surgeon and I exercised as recommended. The key to sticking with exercise is finding something you enjoy doing - in my case, I rediscovered running and haven't looked back.

What a lot of people forget is that we have a limited window of opportunity after surgery (12 to 18 months) where the majority of the weight will come off. You want to maximize the opportunity by eating right and tracking and learning good habits so that they become second nature. The naughty stuff you used to enjoy will still be there once you hit maintenance and you'll probably be able to eat most of it. I want to emphasize that it is VERY possible to kill your weight loss mid journey, end your window far from goal, and be stuck trying to get the rest of your weight off. I know people in this situation, you don't want to be there.

Hey paul, I am 50+ and have lost 65 lbs almost 4 months out.. I take this journey serriously as my 2nd chance at life and count it as just that a new journey for me and my health. Take what your doctor tells you and follow it to a tee. Get your self moving now before surgery will be a blessing to ya too!

PS.. Congrats on your up and coming surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
