On 10 day liquid diet...did anyone else do this?

Recommended Posts

I had to do the two week liquid pre op diet. All I could have was broth, cream Soups with skim milk, cream of wheat two servings max, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello.I also quit me diet coke that same day.I was a bxxxx for the first four days,I hung up on my husband every day on the phone.I got used to it.But the thought of Jello or broth at the end made me sick.I did not eat alot these two weeks. The positive,I lost 29 pounds.I had my sugery March 15-07 and I have only lost 8 pounds in over 6 weeeks. So when I look back I am glad I had to do the liquid diet to get some pounds off.I get my first fill on Tuesday.I did not get to use Protein or slimfast etc.

I would honestly KILL for something solid! Even shredded wheat. I am not really hungry anymore. I just feel kind of wierd, a bit out of it...........like I have taken cold medicine, but I havent. I am sure that is from the changes my body is going through. I am sure I am not getting enough water...I try, but it seems to make me feel sick. I am on day 5 of my 10 day liquid diet. Tomorrow I am having an Endoscopy of my stomach. YIKES! At least the fasting before wont be a problem! LOL! Anyone else have that particular test? Also, I am low in Iron so I am going to get iron infusions (5) One today and one right before my surgery. Seems like so much stuff to do before surgery. I guess I am a little "emotional" at this point...lol (duh). I have only had one small meltdown so far............My husband is out of town ( which might be good for his sake) but I talked to him on the phone and started crying like a baby......lol! I bet he thinks I am nuts. I am getting banded on the 25th. Just want to get it done and over with already. I am sure you gals know whats thats like. Thanks for letting me rant!!!!

Janette :faint: :hungry: :cry

Whoa!!!!! This is the first I'm hearing of all the liquid diets. No one mentioned any of this in my seminar. The nutritionist didn't mention it either. So what exactly is this for? Shrinking my liver??????

HI,

This is my first post. I have been reading posts on here for about a month. I am scheduled for Lap Band surgery in 8 days. Most other patients I have talked to did NOT have a 10 Day clear liquid fast. It is literally SOOOO gross! I feel like I am going to puke all the time. I have the most discusting tast in my mouth no matter how many times I brush my teeth. Just hoping someone on here has done the same thing. I am only really hungry at night, and let me tell you that chicken broth does nothing to fill you up. I am having my surgery done by Dr. Srikanth in Federal Way ( WA ) Anyone gone thru this and any suggestions on how to not literally rip my hair out of my head.

Thanks so much,

Janette :target: :):(

Hi Janette,

I am doing it right now, not fun! Today is day 3 and I am hungry. A good broth I found is Better than Bouillion. I agree, it is not very filling. I am glad to see that someone else had to do the 10 day liquid fast. Thought I was the only one not having so much fun with it. I'm told it gets easier as the days go on though, perhaps my body will adjust. My friend went through this about a month ago (with my same surgeon), and she said by the end of about Day 3, things weren't so bad.

Well, by now you are already banded, and hopefully doing great.

Cindy

Today is day 8 of the liquid diet for me. I am amazed that I have endured it this long. My surgery is on the 10th and even though these 8 days have gone by pretty quickly, it still feels lightyears away. I have no idea how I am suriving this liquid stuff, but I am. I think I am just so excited by finally having a chance at winning this lifelong battle that the thought and vision of that accomplishment tastes better than any solid food that I want to eat. I really don't feel like I'm starving. I really haven't even met my daily quota of liquids yet. But I do what I can. This had really made me realize how attatched I have been to food. I can't really look forward to it like I use to. It's like it was such a major part of my agenda and now it's gone. Mentally, I feel so much stronger because I've been able to make peace with this transition. It's wierd that I've been so good and so committed to this, but all the other much less restrictive diets never worked. Go figure? I'm having the Upper GI testing done tomorrow morning. They told me I have to fast after midnight. Ha! Bid deal!

I had to go on a liquid diet 14 days prior to surgery too. I was banded on April 30, 2007 and when i went for my final weigh in on the 27th I had already lost 25 lbs.

It has been 4 days since my surgery. And the hardest part so far is getting the 64oz of Water down. I love the Protein drink that I take it is Nu-Tek Pro 5 in chocolate flavor...it tastes like nestle quick chocolate milk and in 10 oz of skim milk i place 2 scoops and that covers me with 64 grams of Protein.< /p>

Best of luck to all :)

Hi everyone,

I got the ok from OSU Medical Center yesterday:clap2: so next week I start my 4 weeks of classes with the Dietian. By next week I should have a surgery date. The wait is finally over.:) I have been on pins and needles for the past month waiting for the aproval from the sugeon. I did not have to wait for insurance approval since I am a self -pay. I think this next month will go really fast as I learn about changing my eating habits and how to eat with the band so I don't have any problems. Everyone at OSU medical center has been so nice and very helpful.

Ok I have a question how do you get those nice tickers in your posts and where do you get them.

Kathy

I did not have to do a clear liquid diet pre-op but unfortunately it doesnt get better after the surgery your on liquids for 2 weeks post op for healing. its hard but really worth it. and that taste in your mouth is normal, its your body digesting food. . . gastric by-pass pts experience "plastic" breath a lot after their surgery, im not too informed about that but i do know it is linked to their surgery type.

I have my consultation with the surgeon and nutritionist yesterday. I am still waiting to be banded but they gave me all the pre op and post op information already. They told me 2 weeks prior to surgery I have to do a clear liquid diet and then 2 weeks post op it will be clear liquid. After this then another 2-4 weeks on mushies. They did tell me 'you will definately loss weight during these 6-8 weeks.' Yeah do ya think?!?! HAHA I am not looking forward to that but I am willing to do anything I need to do to feel like a 34 year old healthy mother.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
