3 days post op and I feel miserable! Im hungry all the damn time. Protein Shakes are disgusting and I cant keep it down:/ Water and coffee is all I can tolerate. Anyone else go through this?

Congrats and hang in there….

It is a tough period. If you are not getting your Protein in, be sure to call your docs office and find out if there are other options for you….must keep your Protein up as much as you can especially in the beginning….plus those shakes will help you feel full….water and coffee is not going to help you with the hunger…it will help with hydration as long as your coffee is Decaf.< /p>

As far as feeling miserable each day you will begin to feel better and better…you are only 3 days out of surgery…give yourself and your body a break…it will come….one day at a time.

Feel better and call your doc…thats what they are there for!

I couldn't drink Protein Shakes either. I tried. But they tasted so terrible I couldn't even swallow them. When I was able to drink full liquids, I made Tomato Soup using a lot of milk for Protein. Something about warm liquid going down really makes you feel good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
