Complications due to altitude???

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Just a quick question. Has anybody ever had problems getting really tight after flying or travelling to a high altitude? I've experienced this 3 times, but this last time has been very uncomfortable. I even called the manufacturer who told me there has been no such study done on the Lap Band and its relation with altitude, however, my inquirery into this possibility had not been the first time he'd been asked this quesiton. Anyone had this experience? Thanks.

Not all people are affected by this, but it happens to alot of us. I used to get REALLY tight after flying. I especially get tight when I fly from California, where I live, to Colorado, where some of my family lives. I think the flight plus the change of altitude just does me in.

I have traveled this year more than any other year since I have been banded, and I gotta say that the last couple of flights don't seem to have affected me as much (or I'm just getting used to it LOL).

I just plan to have a soft meal after I land. Usually something like yogurt, protien, nutrients, not too high in cals.

I think it's just an 'effect' rather than an 'issue' if that makes any sense.

I definitely had problems when I flew from Oregon to Arizona. I could eat just fine before I left. The problems started as soon as I got off the airplane and went to dinner. That was even before I had a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
