Oct 6th Has Been Changed To Oct 5th

Recommended Posts

I AM SO ANGRY WITH MY DOCTOR. MY SURGERY WAS GOING TO BE ON OCTOBER 6TH. HIS NURSE CALLED ME TODAY AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO PICK OCTOBER 7TH OR OCTOBER 5TH BECAUSE MY DOCTOR IS GOING ON VACATION. THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME A WHILE AGO BEACAUSE NOW MY JOB IS UPSET BECAUSE THERE IS OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE ASKED FOR THOSE DAYS OFF FROM WORK. AND MY HUSBAND HAS TO CHANGE HIS DAYS OFF DUE TO THIS. THE PROBLEM WITH HIM ASKING FOR DAYS OFF IS HARD. THEY GAVE HIM A HARD TIME ABOUT TRING TO GET THE 6TH OFF. I DON'T THINK THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE HIM THE DAYS OFF. NOW I AM LEFT GOING INTO THE HOSPITAL BY MYSELF WITHOUT ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY DUE TO THE CHANGE. I WANT TO CRY. MY JOB WANTS TO TRY AND FIRE ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T GIVE THEM ENOUGH NOTICE AND I AM NEW. THEY DON'T THINK I SHOULD BE REQUESTING DAYS OFF WITH ME BEING THERE FOR A FEW MONTHS. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND. THIS IS SOMTHING THAT I HAVE TO DO TO SAVE MY LIFE. IF I DON'T GET IT DONE I COULD DIE. TODAY HAS BEEN A VERY BAD DAY. IT FEELS LIKE MY LIFE IS FALLING APART. IF I GET FIRED MY INSURANCE WON'T PAY. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING INSPIRATIONAL:hurt :hurt :cry :) :) :D :phanvan :angry :bored

Sorry you are having so much trouble at work. Maybe it would help if you push it back a week or two after the doctor returns from vacation. Would that appease the powers that be? Doesn't sound like they would ever be understanding. Do they know that you are having surgery?

Hi Hanvan,

Sorry your day has been so tough. It stinks your doctor can do that since he already had surgeries scheduled. Was his office even apologetic about it? How ridiculous... I wouldn't have been happy about it either. I had my surgery in Mexico and took my brother for support ( I had been talked into taking him). I really felt sad and scared down in Mexico without my husband and mom there but once my surgery was over my focus changed to just getting out of the hospital and home again. I know you really want your husband there but if for some reason he can't make it, you will still be better off having had the surgery done. I know it is hard to be tough ( I am a total hysterical wimp in hospitals) but I know you'll pull thru just fine and your hubby would be there as soon as he could. As far as your job, would a letter from the surgeons office explaining the change help the matter? Does your job know what procedure your having done? Shoot, what would they do if you had an emergency illness and couldn't make it in? My mom always told me the "catch more flies with honey than vinegar thing." Is it possible for you to be even more cheerful, polite and helpful the next few days? What kind of work do you do? Well sorry I haven't been too inspirational but I certainly wish the best to you and hopefully it all works out. Teresa :)

It seems strange that your dr. is unavailable Oct. 6, but is available for Oct. 5 or 7. What kind of vacation can he get in one mid-week day? Oh, well, he gets to set the rules. I'm sorry this is causing problems. Do you have a neighbor or someone from your church that could be with you the day of surgery? Hang in there! After you get your band and start feeling better, it will all be worthwhile. Do you have sick time that you can take off from work? You will probably need a few days to recoup. Best of luck to you!:)

Will your job be happy if you bring them a note from the doctor. I know another bandster who had a problem with her job but once she gave her employer a note from the doctor everything was fine. Sorry you had such a bad day I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

If you go for the 7th, wont you have already had the day off? You weren't planning on going back to work the very next day after surgery right?? I would say that even if you were one of the fortunate souls who was up walking around like mad the day after surgery, that you still shouldn't work. Your body is still trying to get rid of the anesthesia n' stuff and you will likely be very tired....

Anywho, I wish you luck with all of this. The idea of a note from your surgeon may help you with your work. On the other hand, there are many bandsters who would just rather that people didn't know what was going on, in which case, you may not want to give them a note telling them what's being done.

Let us know how it turns out. I'm sure that it will all come out well in the end one way or another. :)

THANKYOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES. I AM STILL UPSET WITH MY DOCTOR BUT I FINALLY HAVE IT AGREED WITH MY JOB THAT I CAN HAVE MY LAP BAND ON OCTOBER 5TH. MY HUSBAND JUST CALLED A FEW MINUTES OKAY AND SAID THAT HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE DAY OFF AFTER BEGGING LIKE CRAZY. I AM ON MY WAY TO WORK IN A FEW MINUTES BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE GOING. THEY ARE MAKING US TELL EVERYONE THAT WE HAVE TO GO TO THE RESTROOM. WE CAN NO LONGER GET UP AND GO PEE ANYMORE. THEY STATED THAT WE HAVE TO STAND UP AND TELL EVERYONE THAT WE HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM SO EVERYONE WILL NO WERE WE ARE GOING. THEY ALSO SAID THAT WE ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO TAKE 15 MINUTE BREAKS UNLESS ALL OF THE EMPLOYESS APPROVE. THEY STATED THAT 15 MINUTE BREAKS ARE A PRIVALEDGE AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO GIVE THEM TO US. MY JOB IS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE EVERY DAY. I WISH I CAN FIND SOMETHING BETTER BUT I HAVE TO KEEP THIS JOB UNTIL AFTER MY SURGERY. OTHERWISE THE INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER IT, IF I QUIT.:sick :phanvan

Well, your job better get used to it, because you will be going to "tee-tee" a LOT after you're banded and you keep drinking all of your Water load! Good luck!:)

You know, you should look into labor laws in your state. I know that in California, if you work 6 hours you are required at least 30 minutes lunch, and for 8 hours, it's the lunch and two 15 minute breaks.... so you should look into it just so that your workplace doesn't get too crazy.

I'm glad you were able to get the days off you needed, and that your hubby can go with you. :)

All you need to do is change the way you're thinking about going alone. I went to Mexico all alone. I figured I came into the world alone, and I'm going out of the world alone, so this very initimate decision to have weight loss surgery was something I felt I should do alone. Besides, you won't be alone. You'll probably be in the hospital with several other people getting bands, so you'll all bond and become a whole new family. You won't be alone - we'll all be here for you. You can do this. You CAN do this.

Hi hanvan,

Glad to hear both yours and your husbands work will at least let you get the day off. I do think you need to check the labor laws because in Oregon it is a 30 minute lunch and 2 15 minute breaks as well for an 8 hour day. I thought that was pretty standard in the U.S. Well, at least you only have to wait another week before you can quit if you want. Next week is the surgery!!!! I am sure you'll be getting nervous but remember we are all rooting for you and know you'll do great! Teresa

Not that this will make you feel any better but....GOOD LORD THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CRAPPY PLACE TO WORK!!! Also, that sounds like exploitation of thier employees, they shouldnt be able to treat people like that!!! I'm glad your surgery date worked out for you....please remember you have to see the clouds before the sun sweetheart!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck!!

Katie

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
