Losing weight but possibly not looking like it...?

Recommended Posts

So I am 33 pounds down from 6 weeks ago and maybe two people have mentioned that I have "lost a little weight". One person was like, what did you lose 5, 10lbs? When I told him 30lbs he said "ohhh" with a puzzled look.

No I'm not looking for validation, just a few compliments. (I have always loved when someone says "you're losing weight!")

Anybody else deal with this?

It depends. i don't think people really started saying anything until 30+ lbs lost. Now I get it all the time from people. It's good to know they notice. I reallly like it but I don't look for the compliments I just psyched from wearing all the stuff that hasn't fit for so long. Keep it up and you'll get more of it!!

YES!!! I am down 32 lbs in 5 weeks and hardly anyone has said anything. It's frustrating because it is a LOT of weight and I thought I would look significantly different after that much weight but guess not. I just have to keep telling myself I am not doing this for anyone else.. Just myself - But it does motivate you to work harder when people are noticing!

I'll tell you my story...No one, including my own family, commented on my weight loss until I hit the 50 pound mark. I couldn't believe it.

Then I realized something - my weight was a bigger deal to me than it was to others. I thought of myself as The Fat Girl. Other's just knew me as...me. The people that know me, didn't identify me with my weight - I identified myself as my weight. Yes, I felt good on the day I hit 50 pounds lost that two people commented on my weight - they weren't people particularly close to me (the mom of my son's friend and my financial planner). My husband also pointed something out...I was wearing baggy clothes and it was hard to tell that I had lost so much.

I documented my process by taking measurements and pictures - the pictures are a real help, you will see yourself getting smaller. It's awesome. You know you're successes - this is your story.

You're doing great - hang in there. Next thing you know, you'll start getting looks. (I was out walking the dog the other day and caught a guy checking me out - that's a good ego boost!)

Oh, I know how you feel. I've lost almost 70lbs and can count on one hand the number of comments I've gotten. Granted, I have a lot to loose, and most people have seen me at this weight before. But still…

I let it go. Like McButterpants said: "my weight was a bigger deal to me than it was to others."

Amen. And yes, take lots of pictures! Seeing your own before and after (even along the way) is a good ego-boost!

Be well…

Just wait... they will come. Then you will get them so much you will wish everyone would just stop. When this happens, just remember I told you so. ;)

It probably depends on how we lose. I lost lot in my face and neck, so when I hit 30 pounds I started to get comments. It probably varies from person to person. They'll start asking you questions soon! ;)

I was like the others. It's obvious NOW, but only to people who haven't seen me as much over the winter. It took from October until January or February before most people really noticed anything. And for the people I see regularly, I lose slowly enough that I don't think it's terribly noticeable now either.

One of my good friends (also sleeved last year) said, "When I see you, I don't see that you have lost weight. I see that you look like yourself again." Whatever that means. ;)

My co-worker mentioned 2 weeks PO that my face was getting thinner. I think maybe 15 of the 30lbs came from there!! Im probably down from a quadruple chin to a triple chin now!

I believe that's the reaction I will get also. 2 years ago when I got married, I was 185. I have not seen alot of those people since the wedding and I still have a good 27lbs to lose to get back to my wedding weight.

I've lost 34 lbs and very few people have commented. In fact, someone recently asked me if my husband had lost weight because he was looking thinner. (He hasn't).

I think some people are clueless. I was ~ 80 lbs over weight and when I told one of my friends that I was hoping to lose that much, she was shocked and had pegged me at about 10 lbs overweight.

Other people may notice but just not say anything.

I've had more male coworkers mention my weight loss to me than female. My closest/female coworkers only notice that I'm wearing different clothing. A couple of the men actually sent me emails saying "your weight loss is really noticeable. Keep up the good work". That really made me feel good, but I had to laugh that they were not comfortable saying anything in front of the other guys. :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
