3 month Program with Nutritionist

Recommended Posts

Although I do al lot of forum stalking I've never actually posted but had a question regarding the 3 month program I am required to do by my insurance company (Aetna). So far I have yet to lose and weight and I am in my last month; in fact I've actually gained 5 pounds. I have been having trouble with Water retention in my legs and ankles. Although my nutritionist has put me on a lower salt diet I am still not getting rid of the water retention in my legs. I started the program weighing 385 and I currently weigh 390. Will this in any way affect me getting approved for the surgery?

It might. It depends on your insurance company and also possibly your surgeon's office. One of the requirements for me getting approved for surgery is that I had to lose 10% of the amount I was overweight. When I started the medically supervised weight loss, I was at 366. At that time, they said I was 220 lbs. overweight, so I had to lose 22 lbs. They would not submit for approval until I lost the weight.

That said, every doctor's office is different, and so are insurance companies. Have you contacted Aetna to find out what their requirements are?

Again still working on trying to lose. I was approved for my surgery. Date is July 1st. Check with your doctors office, they should be able to advise you. Wishing you the best.

Yes, I have contacted Aetna and they didn't mention that as part of the approval process. I was really determined myself to do this and lose a few pounds before surgery but it's not happening and it kind of has me discouraged like I'm doing something wrong.

When I contacted Aetna they never mentioned it but I wanted to be positive since it seems like so many people are required to lose weight before approval.

Thank You! My surgeon is also hoping for an early July date for me. Everything should be ready to submit by the middle of June.

True. Mileage does vary, I was just concerned that they would deny me if I hadn't lost any weight better yet gain weight.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
