lap band to sleeve revision questions

Recommended Posts

Hey there! I was banded Febuary 2009. Fast forward 5 years, and twin 2.5 year olds later, I am considering a sleeve. I was moderately successful with the band (lost 75 pounds), and it doesn't give me major issues BUT, I really regret not getting a sleeve back then. When I found out I was pregnant with my twins 3 years ago, I stopped going for fills (obviously, because you can't do that while pregnant). Well, I haven't been back since. I still have some restriction because I get stuck quite often. But, my fills were getting increasingly difficult to do because they thought my port was flipping. I kind of became very scared of getting fills. And lately, I have been having pulling and tugging, sometimes pinching sensations, I'm afraid there may be adhesions going on in there. I am just growing increasingly uncomfortable with a foreighn object being in my body. All of this being said, I am still about 100 pounds overweight, but to my knowledge, I haven't had any issues except not being a good patient for a couple years. And I do think something is going on with these pinching sensations. Will they even consider doing a revision on me? I have NO TIME for fills and whatnot anymore, not with twin 2 year olds. I'm sorry if this was blabby, I look forward to any advice!

Sounds like you may have formed adhesions; hopefully you're not getting stomach erosion. Since you're still 100 lbs overweight, I think they'd do a band to sleeve procedure on you. If I get time, I'll send you a good link. Have you spoken to/seen your surgeon for a consult?

Hi there I was banded in 2008 and had my second son in 2011. I went back to my dr when he was almost a year old but each time the would fill my band I got horridly acid reflux and could not get any food down. We would empty the band wait a few months and try again. Well needless to say after 3 years if this I'm getting revision surgery to the sleeve on 6/18. My dr did say he may need to do it in 2 surgeries depending on scar tissue but hopes he can do it all at once. I would recommend you ask your dr apt doing revision since you do have issues with the band now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
