new to the forum not lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm almost 16 months post lapband. I had my lapband 12/21/05. Was surfing the web last night and decided to join this forum. I've had a few challenges along this new journey and continue to learn more about myself every day. Would love to talk with anyone contemplating surgery or freshly banded.

Hello,

Thank you for making yourself available. I would love to know if the band route is safe from a permanent weight loss perspective. I have tried (and know of many) that have tried various weight loss diets and found they regain all the weight and then some when they come off from the diet.

My main concern about the band is the permanent features of the band. Ofcourse I would also like to become aware of the other challenges that you hinted in your post.

If possible, Id love to exchange email with you. My email id is sunjava25@hotmail.com

Thank you!!

Julie,

Thanks for the welcome. I've lost 128.5 pounds and couldn't be happier. As for sizes, I started 30/32 and am now in 14/16 but plan on losing another 40-50 pounds before I'm at my goal. I too feel great, this is the best thing I've done for myself. NO REGRETS!

Alynne

Hey Janell,

I too will be banded on April 27, 2007 with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. Where are you going to be banded, if that's ok? I feel the same way you do. Have you been to any seminars? I haven't been to any, but I'm going to try and find one here in Los Angeles or nearby just to make sure I know what to expect, and of course, talk to the bansters on this forum. Well, good luck with everything.

I am going to be banded by Dr. Wilkenfeld in Conroe, Texas. I did go to his seminar, which I really enjoyed. Today is my shrink appt, 04/23/07 is my pre-op appt and then Friday is the first day of the rest of my life.;)

I will say this ( and hope I don't offend anyone). The only concern I have is it seems people with the band don't lose as much as people who do Gastric Bypass. Is the a true assumption? Has any one ever regreted getting the Band instead of Gastric Bypass? I just want to lose all the weight I need to and not suffer and be miserable for 30-50 lbs. Any information appreciated even if you wanna holler at me for making an uneducated assumption.:faint: :omg:

Hey, Janell

I hope all goes well with your surgery and that your weight loss journey will be a steady one. Yes, I've read and researched the lap band, yes, you will lose at at slower rate, but it's better for you. Alot of people who were banded really like it. Some get inpatient, but they finally realize that although the weight loss is slow, they are still losing. This method really teaches you discipline and to eat the right foods so that your health improves. I personally, think I will do well with the band because of those reasons. Now, with the gastric bypass, I know two co-workers who have had it. They are happy they made the decision to have the surgery and don't regret anything. They've lost alot of weight and right now, their weight has tapered off. If they want to lose anymore, they'd have to exercise regularly and eat healthjier. They even gained 10-15 pounds back. So you see, GB is not a cure-all, just a tool, like the lapband. They won't or shouldn't, of couse, gain all the weight back, but should watch what their eating and exercise. I've read negative and well as positive things about both GB and the lapband, but I do know it's ultimately my decision on which procedure is best for me.

Thank you so much for responding. I actually discussed my " reasoning" with the doc today and she simply asked me "Why did you choose the Band in the beginning"? I told her less complications, less time off work, less fatalities. She said well theres your answer lol.

I have been doing most of my research on different doctors in Washington. What can you tell me about Dr. Pennings? Does he use the floro to do fills? Has he done a lot of Lap-Bands?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
