My addiction is getting in the way

Recommended Posts

If ever I needed a support group or buddy, now is the time. I feel very worthless and down. I had surgery in September. To date I have lost 50lbs. I should be so far more ahead yet I have been stuck at the same weight since November. I can't seem to control what I eat and I am stuffing myself beyond. I really need to hear that I am not alone and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

First off I want to tell you...you are not alone. I hear your cry and I want you to know Jesus loves you. I can imagine you are rolling your eyes right now but it's true. He loves us no matter what is going on. He loves its whether we have lost 50 pounds or 100 pounds. I'm new to this....only 5 days post op, but I fight depression, loneliness and a disease called Lupus. I noticed your call name is 2nd chance.....well I can tell you we have hundreds of chances with Jesus. I will be praying for you. You are not an addict...you are an overcomer. You can do this.

Hi! I've been there too. 50 pounds is a LOT of weight! Reaching out may help, for example,

therapy, pre-surgery support groups (once a month), Overeater's Anonymous. Hope this helps.

Oh, I forgot. I'm finding the book, "Emotional First Aid" helpful too.

I am so sad that you are feeling defeated by your old habits. You are not alone. We have this great tool, but not one for our old habits. While at a conference I almost gave into my demon as well, because we are smart human beings that adapt quickly to how to cheat while eating less and that is called grazing. It took me a concerted effort to get back to eating Protein first, which fills you up fast AND going to bed early or staying away from the kitchen.

I am sure that I will run into many more of these incidences throughout my journey and have to revert back to logic too. Consider the notion of getting rid of your unhealthy Snacks and crackers/bread, eating 3 square meals with two snack and make it Protein first. Then, start back walking. I don't know if this is what is happening, but you must ask yourself where you fell off and then correct it. You went through too much to let Mr Old Habit rear his ugly head! Wishing you much success!!!

I totally feel for you!!! I am a binge eater and the further I get from my surgery date the louder the siren song of Cheddar cheese Pretzel Pieces seems to call me! There is a chatter of lying voices that play in my head telling me that I'll feel a total release and satisfaction if I just hide out with a bag of something crunchy & salty. I know they are lying but my gosh they are seductive! I understand that therapy or Overeaters Anonymous can help with this, but for the time being I'm reading a book called 50 Ways to Soothe Yourself without food. It's a tough read - I actually have to do "homework" - taking notes and practicing techniques as I read. Tonight I had to look away as I covered up my son's leftovers, grab some mint gum, and then run to the computer to login to Bariatric Pal! As I'm sitting here now I can't believe I was seconds away from grabbing a bag of cheddar pretzels, so it really wasn't my stomach talking to me. And I feel calm and satisfield again now. But it could have gone either way.

I wish you encouragement and success. You need to find some way to recognize and then tune out the lying voices that tell you to eat when you're not hungry. Don't try to do this all on your own. Groups, books, individual therapies, yoga, meditation, whatever it takes for YOU! There are answers out there for us!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
