I was scheduled for a sleeve but had an agreement with my surgeon that if she got in my abdomen and there had been too much damage from the lap band I had taken out she would do a bypass. Anyway so I had a bypass. I'm having trouble with it mentally partly because I think any major surgery can mess with your emotions at first. And because I wasn't totally mentally prepared for it. (Btw I apologize for grammar mistakes etc). I'm typing on my iphone). The first few days I felt "altered". Almost as if I had become some sort of mutant. I am starting to do a little better. I know I needed a weight loss surgery so I think The right thing happened , but I am having an adjustment problem.

I know many people will be going through the same thing. Hope to hear from you all!

We had a young man in our support groups that went from a lap band to a gastric bypass. The lap band had done such significant damage to his stomach that the gastric bypass was his only option. Because of the damage, his pouch had to be smaller than normal. This was a little hard for him at the beginning. He is over 1 year post-op and doing well. He has lost a lot of weight and is very happy. He would do this again in a heartbeat.

I, too, am 5 days out.

I, too, wanted the sleeve, but the Dr. told me that I would have much better results with the bypass. I went to him because I trusted him and the fact that he had performed over 6,000 procedures. Well, I hired him for his expertise, so why not follow his advice? I did and had the bypass last Wednesday.

I feel great. Soreness, but no pain. I feel as if there is an area of liquid or something on my left side. Dr. says its Fluid and will go away. Hope so.

He also recommended the bypass because I had diabetes. My sugar reading for the first couple days were 168, 136, 121, 111, 100, 89 and lastly 68. He says I'm on the way to no diabetes.

Having difficulty taking in all the Water, but am trying.

So far, I am happy and we'll see how it goes. Haven't gotten a a scale yet. Maybe Wednesday --> 1 week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
