Hello

I had a band fitted on Wednesday (11.4.07) I am feeling a bit overawed by it all. I feel like I have a massive burp that won't shift, is this normal? by tummy seems all bloated and hard. :help: Any advice from experienced bandsters would e welcome......

Trish, you are experiencing gas. Try to take some gas x strips. That should help. You can have the gas for months following surgery. Good luck.

Trish,

I felt that too. Gas & tightness. It felt like I needed to burp but couldn't.

Walking helps.

Trish, every day you will feel better. Those first 3-4 days are pretty hard. Lots and lots of gas and a swollen tummy. Just drink your fluids, walk, and rest and you'll feel much better VERY soon. I think between day 5 and 6 was the turning point for me.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your replies, this can be so scary , (as well as exciting) but knowing I am not alone helps, so much!!

I have been walking round the house and did do a small burp and it is starting to feel better. Roll on next week.

Some of what you're feeling is the CO2 that they fill-up your abdomen with, it takes a few days to work out of your system. It also takes 2-3 weeks for the effects of anesthia to wear-off. Just hang in there, it gets better.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
