So I had surgery yesterday morning. Felt pretty good coming out but then once I got settled it hit me. I'm assuming my port is on my right side because I have the largest incision there and it's SO SORE. Like so bad that morphine wasn't touching the pain.

I was so prepared for the gas pain post surgery, but I've had none! I wasn't expecting this pain.

I was also prepared for Constipation but I've had the complete opposite, and I'm hoping it doesn't mean I have to stay in the hospital longer. Did anyone have diarrhea bad after surgery? Sorry for tmi. It's not like I have a stomach ache, I think it may have been from a small cup off apple juice and my body wasn't used to the sugar.

I'm ready to start feeling better. A little nervous to get home because of getting on and off the couch/bed.

We'll see how everything goes, one day at a time, right?

betty_s I have heard other talk about diarrhea...and the pain was so true for me but my port is in my left chest area!!! it last for months and still rears its ugly head every now and then if I sleep on that side too long at night. I know its painful, but as the days goes by Betty it will get better. hopefully they will get the pain under control before you leave the hospital. hang in there sweetie and welcome to Band Land...let me know if you need anything. :D

I had my surgery done yesterday as well. My port is also on my left and it is also painful. Like you, I haven't gotten bad gas pains but I'm not sure if it's because I've been walking from the beginning. I think I feel more pain this morning than yesterday.

its major surgery so its gonna hurt

some still think its a manicure appt.....

never fear, it will and it does get better

call and see if your doctor will let you take immodium ad to help with going #2

liquids in means liquids out ......been there/done that LOL

keep moving (to work the gas out) some take gas x to help (it did not help me) but a hot shower/heating pad helped

but def use the pain meds, sip your liquids, and keep on doing it and move....i promise it will get better..

Betty I know how you feel. I'm day 5 post op, a lot better don't get me wrong, but I still have pain especially by the port. It even hurts sometimes to take a deep breath. The first night or two I was in so much pain I questioned my decision in having the surgery. Like Carolinagirl says, we had major surgery but I honestly didn't expect to have this kind of pain either but it's done. I have to remember why I'm doing this and keep moving forward. I promise you that each day it gets a little better. Just know there are people with you right now going through just what you're going through....if that helps. Feel better !!

Careful and keep in kind that pain meds will constipate you and sometimes not right away. Keep talking to your medical team and let them know your pain levels. Good luck.

I had severe diarrhea after surgery. If the doctor lets you have immodium, make sure you get the BRAND name. Don't get the store brand its not the same. That pain that you are feeling is most likely gas pain. You need to walk alot, sip warm liquids and see if you can use a heating pad. The gas X helps really well too.

I hope you feel better soon. I felt much better after about the 4th day or so - like others have said, it was surgery and you are going to have some pain and discomfort. It does go away and you will get better!

Take good care of yourself - you are on your way!!!!

I was banded on Tuesday, and my left side HURTS. Like, below my breast, more to the left than I ever thought it would. Walking around is uncomfortable, although I am making myself take short walks to try to keep moving the gas around and out as well as keep my bowels from binding up.

I had so many people tell me that the surgery was no big deal, but I'm really struggling with the pain! I'm not having any issues drinking my Protein shakes and such, although I have not had a BM since the morning of the surgery.

Reassure me? :)

Find whatever works best for you to ease the pain. Everyone gave a lot of good suggestions. Once you find what works, use it and keep your goal as your main focus. Just think to yourself (in the tone of "nanana-booboo") I'm gonna be skinnnnyyyy... :)

Jami, I am suffering the same pain you are....left hand side, under my breast. The doctor told me that it's inflammation around the port and assured me that it will get better. Actually today it's doing a lot better than it was and I had surgery on Monday. I had a problem with the Constipation. I hadn't gone since last Sunday. It was like cement (I know, TMI). I took stool softeners and that didn't work. Finally had to take a dulcolax suppository and that worked. Now to prevent it (which I hope it does), I'm taking 1 tablespoon of Miralax everyday in a hot cup of tea. You don't even taste it. I also am adding 2 teaspoons of Benefiber to my Protein shakes in the hope that will help. I just keep telling myself this is all for a good cause. I want to be healthy. It's hard to stay positive when you feel so crappy but we have to try :) Just know, I'm feeling your pain too.

I was banded last Thursday and I am having pain in my lower left side of my abdomen. My port is also on my left side, but the pain is kinda far away from the port site. It's a stabbing kind of pain and hurts pretty bad, especially when I walk. It comes and goes, but I was just concerned and wondering if anyone else has had this kind of pain?

I'm 5 days post op, I was banded the 9th of May, and my port is finally starting to really hurt. I swear I can feel it inside my body when I move. I had to sit a lot a at work today and I feel like it did me in.

I've been doing well during the days, at night I have more pain and nausea. Anyone else like that too?

I had surgery on May 5th. Port pain will be the last pain to go away. Mine still hurts and is still swollen but have seen my doctor for follow-up and this is normal. Each day will get a little better. Sirena, you should probably still be taking your pain medication. I took it for almost a week.

I stopped taking the loritab, and am using liquid Tylenol. I went back to work Tuesday. Can't take narcotic and drive!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
