how soon have any of you really began to exercise. I know we all are walking in our early stages ( i'm about to end my 3rd week) and still walking but when are you all predicting to start going to a spin class or something of that nature. My doctor told me 12 weeks, my question is that what you were all told from your doctors ?

Let's see...according to my 12 years of medical school......wait...oh yeah....I never went to medical school.

It doesn't rally matter what we were told.....your doc knows you and what you need, so follow his recommendations.

Relax....you'll get there it due time. In the meantime, just keep walking. ;)

I'm 33 years old and just over 4 weeks out of surgery. I started on the bike at the gym 2 weeks out. I only go up to level 6 but started out gradually. I would say if you try it and it hurts AT ALL, STOP!! I am an amateur rider. I have not done any spin classes. I just love to ride the bike :-) Always listen to your doctor, even if it sucks. Lol!

I like to ride (outside) amateur cyclist and know I cannot do that for a while but thought maybe I could try and get up on a spin bike and just like you mentioned start out extremely slow but just wasn't sure if I should wait for a few more weeks and keep walking. your up to level 6 .. are you still going ? or did you go back to walking for a while

my doctor also told me 3 to 4 weeks before having sex LOL - I have been good and have been listening to him on that.. I'm sure that's the norm :) :)

Yes, I go 4-5 days a week, 50 minutes. Working up to an hour :-)

I am 6 days post op and my Doctor told me today that I can do all the walking I can stand and to start doing light weights with my arms and legs....no abdominal stress. I am not a fan of exercise but I am motivated to do this!

I had surgery DEC 26th 2013. I started on treadmill right out of surgery. 2 weeks later I was in the pool. 1 month out I was lifting light weights and whatever I could tolerate. About 2 months I was full throttle. I don't bike much. But still do hour a day in pool. Weight training and rowing as much as possible. I also walk a 3 miler as much as possible. I have lost a total of 191 lbs per and post op. Take it slow your body will tell you how much you can handle. Just had careful doing anything with abdominal workout. Good luck on your journey.

My doctor cleared me for whatever exercise I wanted 2 weeks post op. I've been doing boot camp 1-3x/week since, and I go fishing at least every two weeks. I've started doing a little yoga, and I've been using my Wii Fit Plus now that I under the weight limit on the balance board (yay!)

Be well…

I was able to get back into the gym and really start working at after 6 weeks post-op but I think each doctor has his own rules.

Well beginning of my 4th week I felt better so rode my bike lightly. 3 miles then following day went to gym and got on spin bike gentle foe 5 miles not a good idea. It's been 3 days and I feel like 3 days after surgery. I know I asked you all and so I'm definitely going to give it some more time :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
