Hello everyone, I have been on the site for a while as a lurker. There is so much good information on this site. After a long wait(seems like forever) I finally got the call to get scheduled. I will be having my surgery done on May 27 in Kansas City. When I got the call to get scheduled I was so happy and did not know who to share it with first. My doctor has changed some of the pre-op diets and only has his patients do a 5 day shake and 2 day Clear liquids. If it was not for me being sick now they could have done it on this Thursday and I would have done 2 days clear. But because I have no voice they won't put me under. I really don't know how to feel. I am happy the day is coming, nervous am I doing the right thing etc. From what I have read here this are all normal and I have been overweight all my life w/many medical issues. Just wanted to share with you all my happy news.

Rose

Thanks Lisa1999,

I did not have to go through that. My insurance just required my bmi over 40 and 1 of 3 co-morbid obesity medical issues. I had all 3 plus bmi over 40. My sister in law had to go through months of weigh ins w/nutritional counseling etc. She is scheduled for May 22.

Rose2014 congratulations. It's probably a good thing that you got sick before the surgery as opposed to afterward,,,

Relief57,

You are the second person that has told me that. Even the surgery scheduler says it was better for me to be sick now that come down with something right after surgery. Did you have to due 2 weeks pre-op diet? My surgeon use to but now feels that one week is enough but each patient is different. So for me one week is enough....I was wondering how I was going to make it with 2 weeks of liquids.< /p>

Lisa1999,

How do you friend someone?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
