8 weeks post op sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am actually feeling hungry lately. Before I have just kept myself on a schedule. 3 small mini meals. 2 Snacks and extra Protein. Met with my dietician and she have me the go ahead anything is on the table to try. Of course stay away from carbs and soda. Do any of experience hunger the further along after post op? I haven't had this issue yet and sometimes I crave something sweet. What then heck is going on?

Cravings and true hunger are very, very different. Cravings are psychological. When they pop up, its helpful to look at what's going on around you and in your own mind that could be causing you to look for something sweet as a security blanket.

Real hunger feels very different post-op. It isn't the same physical sensation that we are used to. I found that what I used to think of as hunger was really just stomach acid from my former GERD. Usually now when I get that feeling its because I need some Water or I ate something that digested weird.

I'm not saying that its impossible for you to feel hungry, but honestly its probably not the hunger you think it is. Sit with the hunger and analyze it for a little while. Most of the time when you find the root it will go away.

I can't believe how different post op hunger is. I too ate to relieve acid or pain thinking it was hunger. It was morning and no Breakfast yesterday due to work and family move. So by noon I so think it was hunger. The sweet craving was probably stress related as I am trying to cram too much into my work-home life balance lately. My husband keeps reminding me it is time for me after all these years. I am a big giver, guess I need to scale back. Given post op and begining to feel better I am taking on more than I need too. Thanks for all your tips and suggestions to reanalyze.

At around 18 months post, I began to feel hunger. Freaked me out a bit!

So when I do, I make myself a nice salad, using low carb veggies, some lean Protein and red vinegar. This way I am not adding alot of calories and still feel satisfied.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
