This Thursday will be 2 weeks for me, the end of my liquid phase and the start of my mushy phase (3-8weeks), the list of food I can eat includes shrimp and scallops, I love both, but how am I supposed to prepare it so that it is mushy enough? Also, it says I can have saltines and Peanut Butter, this may be a silly question, but does that mean I can spread the peanut butter on the saltines and have it like that? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks :)

Saltines and peanut butter.....oh yummy. I'm sure you can have them together. No idea on the shrimp and scallops.

I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but my doctor said I purée food for the second stage. I would put the shrimp in a blender to mice it. Just an idea :)

Yuck. pureed shrimp sounds awful. I assume it might be nice if we could have cocktail sauce but I highly doubt the horseradish in the sauce is permitted.

The only thing I am looking forward to in stage 2 is Peanut Butter.

I didn't have a "mushy" stage -- I had Stage II Purees and Stage III Soft Foods. On Purees, I had shrimp pureed with cocktail sauce, remoulade, etc. and it was delicious! I could have pureed scallops, but to me the texture of scallops is a big part of what makes them so enjoyable so I didn't even consider it. Soft foods -- I could have any meat I could cut with a fork. You can cut both shrimp and scallops with a fork and I ate them both frequently! Is your "mushy" stage more like purees or soft foods?

I wasn't allowed crackers (no grains) so I can't help you out there.

Thanks everyone :) Yeah I think the mushy phase is more puree food, but exactly, I cant imagine eating pureed shrimp scallops! lol I don't know what remoulade is...but maybe I will just wait till week 9 for the seafood. I am very excited about the Peanut Butter and saltines, though I am surprised I am allowed them since I can see that being an easy problem for me since a cracker! Thanks again for your responses!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
