I'm in outside sales and drive/walk around all day and I went back to work after a week. The first few days I could tell I was a little tired, but I sucked it up and was just fine after that weekend of rest!

I took 8 weeks off. I'm so glad I did. (I also had the lap band removed and a hernia repair.) But now that I'm back to work, I do have more of a regular routine, which helps my eating program.

I was lucky, and was able to go back to work a week later. I have a desk job, so it wasn't that bad at all.

Be well…

I also have a desk job and had some unexpected nerve damage during surgery. Did not realize it until I was already back to work two weeks later when the nerves started to heal and were killing me. It was hard to walk/sit/get dressed... basically do anything. I would say 3 weeks and if you can go back sooner, do so.

I was always so curious about this before my surgery and it still blows my mind... How are people taking 4-8 weeks off of work and still having a job to come back to?! Are you guys going on short term disability or what? I mean, 8 weeks is longer than most people who have a child take off work and that's maternity leave! I think if you set your mind to going back after a week or week and a half, you can do it just fine! Yeah, you may be a bit tired, but it can for sure be done!

I'm a stay at home mom but I needed help the first three days with my kids. But after that I was good to go. I would have easily been able to go back to work within a week.

My doc took me out for three weeks to make sure I get my liquids In. I have full pay disability benefits and am FMLA approved. ; ) I am 10 days out and my incision areas still are sore so I am glad I have three weeks to recuperate.

I was exhausted but it was better for me to go to work because I was sad I couldn't eat. Everyone was eating and I was focused on Vitamins and liquids.

Work was a welcome distraction. ;-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
