My surgery is tomorrow morning at 9 am, I have to be their at 7 & to be honest with you I am really starting to freak out. I was fine up until about an hour ago. I have been soooo excited about this whole thing, but my family & friends have all been calling me today asking if I'm nervous. :omg: I think that is what is getting me so scared.

Welcome to the new June bugs!

Hey, maybe that's what we should name the thread?

I've seen somewhere on here where some people have given their band a name. Just wondering if any of you have thought about that? Silly, I know....but kinda fun, none the less.

I was thinking I will name mine either Gretchen or Stella.

Gretchen just cause I think its a fun name and I'm not allowed to have a dog, so I want to name something that! Haha And Stella cause of the movie 'How Stella got her Groove back' Lol. Cause my band is gonna give me MY groove back!

What do ya'll think??

PS. Good luck to all of those getting banded tomorrow!!

Hi Toni, Lisa and all other Junies :)

Sorry about the lack of correspondence... we moved to a new internet provider last Wednesday and for one reason or another have only managed to get connected today!

Surgery was all good... went in at 10.00am and was back on the ward by 1.30pm. Wasn't allowed to drink all that day but managed to get through it with mouth swab things! Saturday was ice chips, Water and last thing I was allowed an Optifast which all went down well (slowly but fine!). I had a definite case of the blues on the Sunday and Monday which was unexpected and unwelcome but luckily it was short lived and now I feel great ... I can sleep on both sides and stomach which is a huge relief so actually sleeping really well. I don't feel hungry at all but am looking forward to being able to have something a little more substantial than soup! I can't wait to get back into the excercise!

All and all I am loving bandland and feel like the possibilities are endless but sooooo attainable.

Good luck to all being banded today and for those already done I hope that you are feeling good :clap2:

Good to hear from you KT!! Glad all is going well.

Several of you newly banded ones mention not being hungry... OK, not being hungry has never stopped me from eating. I eat cause I want it. Am I missing something here? Am I the only one who eats NOT when their hungry?

Hi Suzzie

I know exactly what you mean... the 2 "down days" I had were spurred by that! I really felt like I wanted to eat but although your head says "I want food" your body is saying you can't eat... and I don't mean that you know that you shouldn't eat something (willpower has nothing to do with it), I actually couldn't physically pick anything up and put it in my mouth because you can feel that there is just nowhere for it to go!

For 2 days I felt angry and very depressed about that, I just couldn't get my head around it and didn't want to accept that I couldn't eat... it was like a personal battle being waged against myself, but on the third day I was tired and I just accepted it and stopped fighting what my body was telling me and know I find that feeling very empowering! I am now concentrating on really tasting, smelling and enjoying everything (and it's only thin liquids) that goes into my mouth... "quality not quantity" is my new mantra, hopefully I can use that to my advantage when I do feel hungry (head hungry that is) and I can try and stay good!

I know that doesn't make much sense, it is hard to explain but I hope that soon you will be able to see for yourself what I mean :-).

KT! Soooooooo good to see your posts! Glad you are home and sleeping fine!

Your post made perfect sense to me. I made this AWESOME dinner for my family tonight, but I also bought a new mocha flavored Protein shake. So as I was drinking mine I was trying to really "taste" the shake for what it was....not just gulp it down and salivate over everyone else's dinner. I enjoyed myself so much more. And I stayed satisfied, too! So your post really hit home to me!

Now if I can just get through tomorrow. I'm finding myself wanting to put solids in my mouth. Ugggggggh. Restraint, restraint, restraint!:)

Cheers everyone!

Toni

What a GREAT idea, and I love both of the names you're considering! I'll have to really think about it, too. Right now my creative juices are not flowing!:notagree

It is so good to hear from all the June bandsters that have already been banded. I am so glad that all of you are doing well. It's good to hear about your experience of not wanting to eat more. That is what I am looking forward to. I am really going to have to start some new hobbies because most of my time is revolved around work and food. :cry

Good Luck to all the banders today. What an exciting day. I think this is the record so far for banders in one day!:biggrin1: Will be looking forward to all of their post.

Well have to go to work now. Will check in tonight to see how everyone is doing. Have a Great Day!

Glad to see that everyone is doing well.

KT, I'm so happy to hear that you haven't had any sleeping problems. I'm a *little* concerned about what my sleeping situation is going to be like post-op. I usually sleep on my side, and I'm worried about that causing pain....how are all the other post-op bandsters sleeping?

Good luck to everyone getting banded today (all 8 of you!) and I can't wait to join you on Friday!

Lucy, I am a side sleeper too. The first night in the hospital I just slept on my back with the head raised. Which was a good thing. Easier to get out of bed when needed to go the bathroom. Last night first night home I slept on each side. On my right side first until I woke up at 4am to go the bathroom then my left side which was a litlle scary because my 3 year old was in bed with us because he had a nightmare. I was so afraid he was going to kick me. Lucky though he didn't. My best suggestion is to put a blanket or pillow under your side so when you belly leans one way or another it doesn't hurt as much.

Hey does everyone own a scale. I don't own one because I really didn't want to know how much I used to weigh. It used to depress me. Now that I have already lost 19 pounds through pre-op I am wondering if I should purchase a scale. Any suggestions.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
