Great loss!

I started Optislim early, 4 weeks out. Need to do 10 days per surgeon but I have my head in the right space now, so thought I would start. 5.4kgs down, I am chuffed but I have heaps to lose so trying to set small achievable targets or the end seems too far away.

My surgeon is Harry Frydenberg, who was yours? I'm having it done at the Epworth Richmond.

Great result Lizz

Keep going and don't get stressed if the weight loss plateaus, it happens, and will then kick back in.

My surgery was done in Sydney Dr Jorgenson. Very supportive.

I also had the help of my wife who kept me in check each day. Pre-op the cravings became very hard, especially at dinner time when things are slower.....

Great that you have your 'better half' on side and encouraging you! dinner time can be a challenge but what is that saying ... Nothing tastes as good as being slim, healthy and fit feels ????

Hi all. Quick introduction. 48yo male 160kg from Dandenong North. Just getting approval for super release to cover shortfall in insurance for surgery with Ray McHenry.

Have dietitian and councillor appointments for a gastric sleeve opp to go.

I realise I have to do this and am quite stoic about it all although I have concerns about reflux and deep vein thrombosis. Also thanks all for sharing your stories as knowing what is to come makes it that much easier.

Newbie here, getting sleeved today

Hi everyone, today's the day.....nervous but excited! Starting weight is 119 kgs, previously had the band done by Dr Craig Taylor which was in for 5 years. Lost 25 kgs but then had all sorts of trouble where nothing stayed down. Band removed February 2015.

Now I have Professor Nottle in Melbourne doing sleeve today...just found this site and wanted to thank you all for sharing

Thanks kiwijet, so far so good. I am just uncomfortable in the tummy, feels as though I have done a full Pilates class no shoulder tip pain and getting the barium swallow test done at lunch today.

Home now, 3 days post op. The barium swallow test was disgusting...honestly thought it wasn't going to stay down...simply because of flavour and texture. Can't believe how lucky I have been with having minimal pain since surgery. Tracking well and on free fluids for the next 2 weeks.

Have you been able to get your dietician and counsellor appointment yet kiwijet?

Good to hear you are recovering well. I have both appts this coming monday and for those considering the op I managed to use my super to cover the shortfall from my private insurance. Tell me what is meant by free fluids is that no solids for 3 months?

Good luck for Monday! I was on clear fluids (apple juice, broth) 48 hours after surgery, would have been a title sooner but I still has swelling. I only had to have two meals as clear fluids then went onto free fluids which are light yoghurts, custards, ice creams and Soups like pumpkin.

I only need to do free fluids for 2 weeks and then I go to puree food for another 2 weeks then it's normal food

Xena, how is everything going, can you tell me about the barium test. Is it an xray? and if so is it the circular tube type xray and how long does it take. As i suffer from claustrophobia and am more afraid of this than the surgery I think.

Hey kiwi, things are going well. I get slightly uncomfortable in the evenings but that could be because I'm trying to walk around a little during the day. The barium test is also known a gastro swallow test, at The Alfred hospital I had to stand against an X-ray machine and they slide the X-ray plate close to your chest. They give you half a cup of drink that is clear and smells like licorice. It's a little thick like a Syrup, they tell you to take a sip but do t swallow until they say and then they take the X-ray pics as you swallow....

You should be right with claustrophobia, it's just a struggle drinking something syrupy and sickly sweet

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
