Guess who has sleep apnea?

Recommended Posts

Well, after all the whining and complaining, I found out yesterday that I DO have moderate sleep apnea. :notagree I could not believe it! They want another sleep study with the CPAP to see how it does but I won't be able to do it before surgery which shouldn't matter (I asked). Just goes to show how much I really know about myself!!! I also have that restless leg syndrome thing...anyone else? I kinda knew that one but they said there are some meds you can take for it. So class what have we learned? Do all the test and smile, you may learn something you never knew!!

Have a great day!

Jodi

Yep, same here. I had no idea I had sleep apnea until the first study (mine's moderate too), then had to go back for a second study to test with a CPAP before they'd do the surgery. Been on a CPAP over a month now. Not as bad as I thought it'd be, and now that I'm 2 weeks post-op, I'm already finding that my snoring has lessened since dropping almost 15 pounds. May not have to have the CPAP more than 6-8 month...

I already knew I had sleep apnea, but my Pulm MD wanted another sleep study, found out it was getting worse and they increased the pressure from 12 to 14.

I also found out from the endoscopy that I have Barrett's esophagus.

I look at it as a blessing, we need to know these things to live and get healthy. If not for pre-op testing, I probably would never have gotten an endo as I had almost no acid reflux symptoms.

Stick with the cpap, keep trying and after a while it will seem like a friend. They really do help if you use them. And, soon you won't need it !!

I have my surgery 5/14, and have to bring my cpap along. Did your dr tell you to bring it with for your surgery?

I also have to stay overnight because of the apnea.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
