I had my surgery on April 3rd and my first fill on April 25, man when they say only liquids on a fill day, that is all I will have from now on. It was midnight and I ate two green Beans and slither of chicken...STUCK food it was the worst feeling ever. It's painful, you cannot breath, your mouth is watery, and you experience slim. I have learned my lesson, I'll never experience that again.....

Sorry, I am sure that was not a good feeling at all. My surgery was on April 1st and I am still on soft food. I do not get my first full till May 15th and not real food until after that. I am looking forward to real food. When did you doctor let you start regular food?

Hi there, sure know what you mean - I have experienced this four or five times since my surgery and I think I'm finally in the habit of slow slow slow eating. I was such a fast eater it was a hard habit for me to break. Getting stuck sure works as far as behavior modification, that's for sure! I have discovered what foods I'm unable to chew up well enough. For me it's anything rubbery. And cooked beets of all things -- I think in that case it's the slipperiness.

Oh yes, I have learned. I am now using my timer they gave me, it's hard because I am also taking smaller bites, so sometimes I swallow before the time has lapsed.

So how long is the time it says you should be chewing before you swallow?

Red storm,

One minute...or smaller bites. It truly depends on the meal. But the timer is for one full minute.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
