Any 2014 June Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi June sleevers!!

I'm scheduled for June 23rd and in all honesty I am FREAKING OUT! I know I need to "cool my jets" but come on, this is only my second surgery ever! And my gallbladder removal (this past November) was ANYTHING but enjoyable.

So excited to live my life and be the fun and energetic person I am inside this oversized body! Good luck all you early June sleevers! Let me know how you do! ♡

My husband is also going to have a sleeve done. I will do mine first and hopefully he will be approved for July. It makes it so much easier when the people you are closest to are supportive and in my case going through the same thing. We haven't told our teenage kids yet. I plan to tell them the weekend before. They are both wrapping up the school year and have finals looming, so I decided to wait till tests are done. So that means the weekend before my surgery. I believe they will be supportive and caring when they realize how major this surgery is. But for now.., I'm heading to the Carolina coast for a work function and lots of fun in this beautiful springtime sun....anyone want to tag along:)

I'm tentative June 9th. Waiting on insurance approval. Completed all my nutrition and psych classes. Have been drinking Protein Shakes and taking Vitamins since February. Doc said I didn't have to do a Preop diet!

Tentatively I havee may 23 scheduled for all preop testing and consults. June 12th is the tentative surg date. My insurance is crappy so i have to self pay. I found places in the U S where it can be done for 11,900. That includes everything. Even 2 weeks Optifast, 1 year of follow up, and minimal blis complication insurance. With my insurance in WV it was going to cost me 23,000. The clerk at dr rossi office did not even call my insurance. She just told me that self pay was 32,000 for doc and hosp not including tests and consults. My insurance only pays 10,000 max. My new doctor is 3 hours away but they work with u if u travel there to get apts and testing in one day.

My dtr wants me to schedule the end of june so she can take off so i may rearrange them. I also need to find out if i need to have surgery before i start my biologic med for rheumatoid disease.

Finally got my approval from the insurance. Spoke with my cordinator and she said they will schedule me for the 3rd or 4th of June to help me out with my work schedule. I guess I'm starting to get the gitters. Been thinking about this for years, and jumping through hoops for the past 7 months. I was not told anything about a pre-surgery liquid diet. But I am going to go ahead and go with a Protein shake for Breakfast and liquids / Water the rest of the day, just in case.

My doctors office makes us go to 2 classes pre-op where they explain the diet and everything in more detail

I took some classes online. I have a wierd situation. I work out of the country for a month, then home for a month. (oil field) So my Doctor has been very accommodating with my situation. The Dietician I worked with discussed all the pre and post- op cans and cant's, so I feel comfortable with that. But I was expecting a pre-surgery diet, and it wasn't reccommended. Go figure? I have never dieted in my life, (other than the 6 months insurance requirement) but I have fasted many times. Usually 14-28 days of strict Water fast. So doing a liquid diet will not be an issue.

I hope he gives me a date in the first week of june only. Although, i'm scared about the pre op diet. How difficult is it???

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
