Every time I ask a question should I be doing________(whatever) they tell me I'm not big enough. Like at my last appointment I asked will I be doing a liquid diet a week or so before surgery? Response" you're not big enough" once I get my final weigh in submitted to insurance and they approve me I am going to do a week long liquids diet. At least a few days. Im border line bmi right at 40bmi. I want to have an easier surgery and recovery and from what I've read it seems like those who do a pre op diet fair better in recovery process. What do you all think?

At 40 bmi, I doubt a week liquid diet will change much about how easy your recovery. However, there's no time like the present to get started on a change. I will suggest that regardless of whatever pre-op liquid diet, a good cleanse (magnesium citrate or the like) the day before surgery will help considerably in recovery. good luck ;)

Thanks for the tip! I will. I've been drinking nothing but Water and trying to get as much research as possible before the big day . Quit smoking in October . Small things.

If you want to voluntarily do a pre diet you dont want to go to just Water. Your body needs fuel to operate and stay healthy for the surgery. My preop diet was 2 Protein shakes a day and a dinner consisting of 4ozs of chicken, turkey or fish and a green vegetable(no butter or sauces)

The preop diet is for one main reason. For your liver to lose its excess fat. During surgery the surgeon has to lift your liver out of the way to get to your stomach. A fatty liver is stiff and brittle and can be damaged very easily when they move it. When its lean it is soft and pliable.

Also when your body loses weight, the internal organs are the first place to lose the fat.

Thanks for the info on the liver. I have never know anything about it other than the liver needs to be smaller.

liquid meaning Protein Shakes and Water. I could eat chicken too. Yummy

I am 41 BMI and I'm on a 2 week diet that consists of 4 Protein shakes a day, as well as Healthy choice Soups, broth, popcycles, sugar free Jello and pudding, veggies plain with nothing on them.

It's all ha to do with your doctor.

The way I see it is that we are given a chance to change our lives, after a sleeve your lifestyle changes considerably and should become a way of life. Why wait until the week before surgery or even two weeks, don't eat carol right up until surgery, many people do that and see it as a last time to enjoy their current way of life. If someone enjoys it that much, don't have the sleeve. You have already made the choice so change it now., give up the bad stuff, get your diet right now and see the sleeve as stage 2 in your life. I can promise you now that you won't be able to eat then like you do now,trust me I did it, and now I have to go into surgery again due to a stretched sleeve, not fun!,

Start your new life, your second chance now, your recovery will be heaps better

I am making small commitments throughout these 6 months leading up to the sleeve. I mess up of course. But I'm trying.

How did you stretch your sleeve

I think it was stretched from fizzy drinks(sugar free) and just not listening and identifying between hunger crystal and over full crys. Within 4 months I was on my way back to old habits, I managed to lose 42kgs and piled it all back on, so now I'm booked in for an Omega loop bypass, I see it as my last chance and really can't wait. My headspace this time round is completely different . I really feel that emotions probably play at least 50% in succeeding

Yes my dr said the same thing on my very first visit, he said lose 5-10% before surgery, I asked about that because I'm right on the line for the BMI requirement and he said, that does not matter, the insurance goes by today's weight.

Must depend on the insurance. He told me not to drop below 40bmi which is 205lbs for me. I fluctuate from that to 210.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
