Okay so I am 6 days post op. I broke down and weighed myself and down 16LBS. WooHoo!!

Couple things that have been bothering me. I don't feel like I have much restriction when it comes to liquid. My dr has all his patients on clear liquid diet for a month AFTER surgery so I Eat SF Jello, broth, Sf ice pops and unflavored Protein added to diet juices and jello. ANYWAY, sometimes I feel like I can have 3 ounces of broth no problem. I've never had a pain from eating too much (drinking) I just stop when I'm satisfied. My question is,just because I can get in 3 ounces of clear liquid at once will the restriction be different when I moe to full liquids, purée, and reg foods?

Restriction is much less with liquids. Once you start purées and real Proteins, the restriction will be full force.

I never had a problem with liquids! Totally agreed wait until you have food with some substance you'll get restrictions. Your body is healing, keep drinking you need the fluids. You got this !!!

I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me!

Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more.

I had far more restriction when I got to the mushy stage, i.e. the more dense the food, the less intake.

I wouldn't be overly concerned, just go with what feels tolerable for you.

Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey! :D

Thank you!!! I feel so much better. It's funny how I think 3 oz is a lot when last month I was eating pizza for dinner!

I feel same way. I'm two weeks post op. First three days I could just sip. I can drink as I did prior to surgery and don't really feel full. I'm on full liquids and start mushy food on Tuesday. I sure hope to feel the restriction!!!

Fluids run right thru me. Don't worry about it. When you start eating real foods, your sleeve will get full much sooner on less food.

I am 3 days postop on Clear Liquids and definitely feel restriction. I can't tolerate anything more than Water and Decaf diet iced tea. If I drink a bit to much to quickly, I get a weird feeling inside that radiates toward my back. Only lasts for a second but it's really strange.

I drink like a camel. I'm so thankful I can still drink plenty of fluids with no problems. I'm praying when I start solids I fill up with very little.

I can barely get 3 oz of Water in per hour... I'm like sip sip sip. Yesterday I only managed to drink 35 oz of water total. I'm hoping that ill eventually be able to drink with more ease.

I can't drink much either, no more than two sips at a time. I struggle to get even a little Fluid, can't imagine drinking 64 oz! I think 40 has been my best so far..I'm 2.5 wks out

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
