Hello all, newbie question: how long did you plan to take off work for surgery and recovery?

I took a week. Everybody is different but I was told to take a week. Glad I did. I felt fine but needed to detox from all the chemicals pumped into my body from surgery and pain med which I didn't have to take much of. Then I needed to make sure I was getting enough nutrients from the liquid fast post op. So a week worked well for me.

Hi I am 5 days post op and plan to go back Wednesday which is 8 days. I feel pretty good today just some indigestion. Got Gas X strips today at pharmacy and not tmi but a huge burp after I had one. A week is just the right amount of time I think. My dr said I could have it done on a Thursday and go back on Monday. Not as a teacher I couldn't go back.. Good Luck to you..

Thank you all for the insight. I was hoping about a week was a good amount of time. I'm finishing up testing and hoped to be approved soon for a June date :)

I had surgery on Friday and went back on Tuesday. I was really really tired, but I did fine. If you have the time, I suggest you take a couple of days off - because you never know if you will need a little more time to recoup:)

had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work by the next Wednesday...but I had some issues with nausea...otherwise I would have had been back on that Monday. you take what you need though...you can always say more and then if you feel up to it go back early...unless your job requires you to be released from your doctor. best wishes and remember we are here for you!!!

I planned on taking a week, but I ended up having some really bad reactions to medication and didn't actually start healing until the 2nd week, which forced me to take 2.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
