Give your opinion to tell or not

Recommended Posts

I started to tell a few people and family. I had some negative reactions by what I thought was a close person friend and also a few others so I just decided to keep to myself. Overall it's my decision and no one has no right no judge my choice that I make in my life. I don't truly keep it a secret km just very selective about what I say and to whom I say it.

I've told my family, best friend, and coworkers. 99% of them are extremely supportive. I don't plan on telling anyone else, unless the situation arises. As excited as I am about my surgery, there are still those out there who think it's the easy way out, or that surgery is a cop-out, so I'm not planning on posting to Facebook or anything. I'm too excited and happy about how my life is about to change, and I don't need any Debbie downers trying to talk down to me about it! :)

I am not ready to tell anyone except my husband & kids. My 3rd preop appt with my Doc nurse practioner said she wanted me to sit down with another coworker who had gastris bypass a year ago 1 month before surgery so she could tell me the good the bad and the ugly. I felt offended. I told her its not going to happen I am not ready to talk about it to other people. Am I wrong?

No you're not wrong!! This is your journey and if you don't feel comfortable sharing or hearing about someone else's ups and downs that's your decision and it should be respected!! That's what I love about this forum we share and support each other without judgment.

Yes she even told me this forum was not going to help me & that I should join a local support group. I find this forum very informational. I am still new but learning. I really felt uncomfortable. I feel the users on this forum understand because they have either gone through or going through it. I like that I can move at my own pace. Didnt seem right.

It's a personal decision. There is no wrong or right. In the beginning I didn't want to share maybe because I was ashamed. But then I realized if someone was my friend they'll support me and if they criticize me then I don't need them around. If you don't want to talk to that person it's your decision but at least you know someone who has gone through what your about to and you can talk to them when YOU want to. Good luck with your journey!

I told my husband, children (they're 9,8 &2) mother in law, best friends and my dad and step mom, sister in law, sister and neighbor. Other than that I'm keeping quiet about it, My husband and I decided that because of other issues on my side of the family that it was best if my mother and her side don't know, so we're keeping the circle tight and controlling the information tightly.

I was telling people because I need support. Now that I have found this group that will be less. I have been so excited that I did tell the team at school that I work with and talked to another teacher who had it done. I also told people at my church so that they can pray for me. I did tell my mom and she is actually coming to take care of me for a week so thats great since we are not very close. She then told my brother and all my nieces and nephews and grandma and aunts and uncles. Didnt like all of that. I think she told them bc she is going to be out of town. Oh and my dad told at least someone bc he told me about someone who had it done. Not too happy with that part but the people that I have told have only been supportive, at least to me to my face. I have no one else to tell thats close to me and I will post pics of my weight loss but not shout it from the rooftops if that makes sense. I am glad people are supporting me and that helps even though it wouldnt change my decision. My principal even told me good luck as well!

I've had mostly good comments back when I've told people about the surgery. I told my trainer at the gym and she said "Oh no... do it with diet and exercise." But then, when I told her I was having the surgery she has been supportive and said she is excited to see my results and that she will work hard with me.

My best friend knows -- she also said she'd like to see me try less invasive methods -- she has a lot of opinions about natural, alternative medicines -- but then she also knows I'm doing this for my health and has told me she will support me in any way she can. She's going to drive me to the hospital and even asked me what I will be able to eat early on so she can have that for me when we have Bible study at her house. That's a real friend.

Today I had a treadmill stress test as the last surgery clearance thing and the nurse administering the test talked to me about the surgery. He was in his 20's and told me he lost over 100 pounds after he moved out of his mother's house and got married. He said he never exercised but that he was nursing in a hospital and walked over 5 miles every day. He said he knows it CAN be done without surgery but didn't try to discourage me or anything. I told him it was good he did that when he was so young but that it is so much harder when you're older and have a sedentary job. He wished me luck and said when I come back for my followup visit in another 2 months, he'll expect to see a much lighter me. He was very nice and supportive even though he had done it without surgery.

So -- I think I have to learn not to try to defend my decision when people just have different opinions. Unless they get all up in my face about it -- then we'll have to throw down! lol

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
