Lost 71lbs and I don't think people can tell...

Recommended Posts

I have found that since my surgery carbs don't agree with me, so I've been avoiding them. This week someone offered me a chocolate covered matzo, which normally, I would eaten it with joy. While some people know I had WLS not everyone does. Frankly, I wish I had even less people than I did. Anyway, I declined and said that I've given up carbs and sugar. A discussion ensued about the pros and cons of not eating carbs etc. I just said I felt better when I didn't eat them and it helped in weight loss. (All true) So a coworker of mine said, oh ok... so have you lost weight? I just nodded and said yeah I have. But I have to tell you. I am running into this. That people who see me everyday, can't tell that I have lost weight. Some have for sure, but just as many can't tell. This makes me unbelievably sad. WLS or not, this has been hard. And in addition to wanting to loose weight for health reasons, I also did it for the sake of my vanity. I realized that I was THAT fat, that people can't see a 70lbs weight loss. It just bothers me a lot. I dunno. I just needed to share, I guess.

Hateration! I hate to say that some people just don't want to compliment you when you are doing well. A 70 lb loss on anyone is recognizable. So don't worry and keep doing you. Congrats!

I agree. People like that are either self-centered and never notice anything about anyone else, jealous because they haven't been able to lose, or just mean. Try not to let it get you down. You are doing this for YOU! and YOU deserve all the benefits that you see everyday.

To give them some credit, those who see you everyday may not notice. Wait until you run into someone you haven't seen in a long while. They will certainly notice! And the more you lose, the more obvious it will become to those around you. Keep your chin up!

I am so glad I am retired from a large government agency where I interacted with hundreds of people every week in making my rounds. And I can guarantee that NO ONE would have noticed if I gained or lost a hundred pounds overnight. Just to show you how invisible overweight people are at work, I was having a stroke while making rounds - in a V A Hospital, and no doctor or nurse even noticed! I managed to drive myself 12 miles home in city traffic, and figured out to call an ambulance when I got home. Geeze Louise.......it is a crying shame how invisible we are. So, don't take it personally. It's just the way the world is.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
