when is it time to see the plastic surgeon?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me when it's time to see the surgeon do you have to have lost so much weight or how does it work? I'm not sure if I'm ready but close I have to tuck stuff in lol and I can feel that its just hanging there I guess you could say it's hard to describe I do get rashes an raw from it rubbing my doctor said for now use powder or diaper rash cream. At one time I was told after a year or two with lap band patients. My doctor says I'm gonna be one of his band patients that has gastric bypass results. So if anyone knows anything about the plastic surgery or process l'd love to hear from you.

Every lap band patient and doctor will have a different answer to your question for sure.

Here is my two cents: I asked my Primary Care Physician, Lab Band Surgery and Plastic Surgeon ---> ALL said once I was within 15 pounds of my goal weight they would recommend surgery.

The impression they gave me, it was okay if you lost under 20 pounds AFTER you have the surgery (no issue); the problem is when GAIN weight after the surgery (if that makes sense)...

Good Luck on your Journey

If you're considering surgery to remove excess skin you should wait until you're within 20lbs of your goal weight. If you do it any sooner then you my not be satisfied with your results because if you lose 50lbs more or whatever the number is the likliness of excess skin redeveloping is high. Good Luck

LaddyMaggie and I have the same opinion as my doctor sent me when I was within 15 pounds of goal. You have to make sure you will not have a significant weight loss after plastic surgery and leave more skin to be removed in another surgery. Not sure if I will be having surgery but could sure use it. My insurance will over do a "skin amputation" which is only on the stomach. If I have anything else I have to pay out of pocket.

I needed to know this also. This helps. I'm still too far from my goal, but it helps to know.

so I went to the dr he told me he would like me 20lbs from my goal weight than I can see the surgeon also let me know that I should go to my primary every time I have any rawness or sores or anything because of the extra skin it will help as far as getting insurance to pay for the procedure. well im 38lbs from my goal weight and I have decided that im gonna just wait till I hit my goal weight than go see the surgeon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
