My surgery was 4/7. I am craving sweets, carbs, and fried food. Has anyone else had cravings this soon post op? When a commercial comes on tv or I smell something delish, I go crazy. I haven't eaten any bc i want to take care of myself.

I had cravings for spicy food and something with texture. All the Protein Shakes was sweet so I got tired of sweet.

it's common, it's your head trying to weasel it's way back into controlling your tummy... don't succomb to it...it's trying to brainwash you...lol

I found sipping some hot tea or broth helped get thru those times... I am fighting "head hunger" myself these days too...the worse I have done is raw almonds :)

Fried food and sweets make me nauseous just to look at, so I guess I'm lucky there... the stuff I eat is on our plan, but I have been indulging in "extras" and I have to stop NOW

PS that's why I LOVE my dvr...I hop right thru the commercials, rarely watch anything "live" anymore

Just a word of advice - if you do give into your cravings, I guarantee your body's reaction will be so awful you won't do it again. :) I craved Cookies. Bad. I finally gave into temptation about 2 weeks after I went on solids. BAD mistake. I was so miserable. Spent the evening in the bathroom, if you know what I mean. I agree your stomach is trying to pull a fast one on you.

One thing I learned in this journey is that sugar is addictive. Once you start in the morning, you can't stop all day. So if you put sugar in your coffee, you will crave sugar all ..... day...... long. UGH! Also, artificial sweetener (Equal, Sweet N Low, etc.) all produce the SAME EFFECT in your brain as sugar does. Your brain can't tell the difference. So, if you put Equal in your coffee in the morning, you will crave sweets all.....day.......long. And carbs. It's vicious I tell you.....VICIOUS! LOL!!! My understanding is that Stevia doesn't do that to you. I need to try it. But, for you, this may be the key to why you're having those cravings?

Good luck. You can do it!!!!

Glad I'm not alone!

Hoagie and double choc chip cookie with an iced mocha latte from Wawa.

Alas, clear liquids it is! Can't even have Protein shakes yet!

My NUT commented on how often I hit Wawa (pre-op, guess that'll have to change).

Gotta have a Wawa!

(are you a Jersey girl? we don't pump gas, you know!)

I concurr with what @rbtnln says. Your head says "I'd love to have a three piece fried chicken dinner from Church's!" but try to do it and your sleeve will tell you that you can force down about half a piece and it won't be pleasant. The VSG is seriously a self-policing weight loss procedure. Hang in there, it will get better.

I'm craving cheese and just the feeling of being satisfied. A piece of string cheese would send me over the moon after a week of shakes lol. It also bugs me the smell of whatever my family cooking.

I was talking to a friend about how I used to work at pizza Hut and how I wished I had gotten sick of it lol. I could still happily eat it every day and we were talking about what's good there and how you can make it extra good when you make it yourself and I was like ..... OKAY STOP. I started this convo but I cannot talk about this anymore haha. Too "hungry".

I was just talking to my husband about this. I'll be a week out tomorrow. When I really think of the things I would love to be eating right now, I realized it was the sensation of chewing that I really missed. Like, I'd love to bite into a huge sandwich. I don't even think I miss the actual food, just that satisfying chew/tearing!

I craved seafood and bacon?!? It was crazy. One month (almost 5 weeks) and cravings are different. Less intense. But the first weeks, I craved savory, texture-y type foods.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
