Adjustments

Recommended Posts

So I confused on the signs I need an adjustment. I eat something's fine in day and the next it's getting stuck. I'm afraid if I go get it and end up too tight that's a whole other issue. Can anyone share an a answer to this? I feel like I'm eating for than I should and it's been 3 1/2 weeks since my last adjustment. Is it possible for it to get tighter this far out?

I'd be upfront and honest with your surgical team. Talk to them - tell them about your concerns.

Best wishes

Unfortunately the band will not make you eat less. It's sometimes billed this way but it's just not true.

Try not to gauge or judge the band by how often you get stuck or how much restriction you feel. Satiety and satiety soft signals are what you should be looking for. Soft signals like hiccups, burps, runny nose are signals to stop eating.

And for some of us, it takes many months or years to really learn how to eat small and chew big with the band. Getting stuck every other day could be a sign you're not chewing enough, not eating slow enough or that the bites are too big. I too thought I was doing it all just right 8 months out. I thought I had gone too far and was in the red zone but the truth was, I wasn't following the rules as well as I should have.

Cravings can make us eat more than needed and eat the wrong foods too. Watch for the satiety signals is all I can offer.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
