TatorTot..

Don't give up.!!

My Dr only requires 1 day of Clear Liquids before surgery and nothing after 11pm the nite before. This was the same plan I had to follow for my lap band removal which was yesterrday. I was in and out of the hospital in 4 hours and have zero pain. As many have said..every Dr has their own pre-surgery diet plan and there is no one right or wrong plan. Just try your best and you will be fine! I too HATE Protein Shakes but I used Premier blended with ice and it really was ok!!

You can do it. I agree with what people have said. It's a low cal diet to help shrink the liver. I actually met a operating room assistant in my group and she said that when people stick to the low cal - it makes it easier to move the liver out of the way but they do they surgery, no matter what - once they are in there.

I am 7 days post op and you really don't care about food now - just trying to get my Protein and fluids in. Give it all you got. You can do it. Just remember to read over all the reasons you first listed when you started this journery. Keep your eye on the goal. :)

If you can't do the liquid diet for the entire two weeks prior to surgery at least do it for 5 days before surgery. My doctor recommended this to shrink the liver. She said it was necessary during the surgery.

some/many people have problems with pre-op diet/shakes et al

i think/know people feel overwhelmed at times

cheating alittle too??

Knock it off!!!

couple of reasons doc wants people to lose weight pre-op

its easier for them to perform surgery, around our fatty liver

they also want you to prove that you can proceed, follow rules et al

some/many/me hate those nasty shakes

but their important

there are prepared liquid shakes that don't taste too bad

i think Premier is one of them???

you are still 10 days pre-op..........keep working on eating properly, not as much food too

but keep plugging away

many of us are overwhelmed at first - and maybe for a while post op too

keep reading the many informative posts

you've been a member here for just over a month

read, read, and read past posts

go to utube and watch some videos

you'll see many encouraging people - before and after pics

this should help motivate you

i can see the determination in your eyes

you can do this, but you DO have to work at it

some people think that the sleeve is a magic pill

its not!!!!

the sleeve works with you if/when you work with it

this is hard, and you have to keep up with your proper eating for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

but.......on the plus (this is a big one) you will be so much healthier, feel & look better too

i no longer take diabetic meds/insulin - no high blood pressure, no CPAP

my big unexpected reward is/was having my epilepsy medication/dosage cut in half!!!!!

you can/will be successful

you made the wise decision to have the sleeve - don't second guess yourself now

be excited/prepared for a gigantic, wonderful change in your life

no more cheating ok (even if its healthy stuff)

keep telling yourself you can do this

if you hopefully you can succeed....

i wouldn't cancel

talk to your doc if you are comfortable

hope i didn't lecture too much, but i care, and i know you want to lose your weight for many reasons

get ready for the 23rd

good luck

speedy, good recovery

kathy

Great advice!

You will be fine... I continue to eat healthily, get your Water and Protein in. You've come this far! As for me, the pre-op diet was more to prepare myself MENTALLY for what was coming... Post-op, I was losing slowly, then BAM! It went pretty quickly! Over 100lbs a year in. You'll be great!

Don't get discouraged. A liquid only diet is extremely difficult. My surgeon requested two weeks of 2-3 Protein shakes/day and one meal of salad with 4 oz lean protein and low fat dressing. Three days prior to surgery I had to take an overnight laxative and only take in Clear Liquids until being NPO the day of surgery.

It wasn't easy, but it was much more tolerable than 2 weeks of liquids only.

Most importantly, be sure and do liquids only for the last three days; this is to be sure your digestive track is cleaned out.

Again, don't give up! You can do this. You will be so happy once you are on the other side.

Thinking back to my preop diet, days 2-3 were the hardest. Then it got a lot easier! If you can make it past your mental "food block" it'll get easier on the other side! Kinda like runners block :-) After the sleeve it's much easier! I was forcing myself to eat during the first few stages. Now 8 months later, I'm eating anything fine, except I forget to sometimes. I never thought I would forget to eat!!

Also try sugar free carnation instant Breakfast with skim milk. Has a few more carbs then others, but it's much easier to drink if you struggle with Protein drinks.

You can do it!! Don't quit! Think of all the diets and other bs you've tried to lose weight in the past. Let those thoughts of your efforts motivate you because this time it'll actually work!! :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
