If anyone is interested, I just created a private support group called Mission Slimpossible on Facebook. I made it private because not every one has told their friends about their WLS, myself included. The purpose is simply to provide support to pre & post op WLS people, similar to this website, but on FB.

Why not just use this website? You could. It's just that some of us are a little more obsessed with FB than we should be (I'm blushing), and access it a lot more than this site (I'm still blushing). No other reason than that really.

It's not just for those of us in Denver, so please feel free to share it with others. I hope to also share recipes, something I seem to be a bit crazed about these days.

Hope to see you there!!!

I would love to participate! Do you have a link? You can find me on fb at https://www.facebook.com/CarreEW1081 if you need an invite.

Thanks!

OK, if you're not already a friend of mine on FB, then you'll need to provide me with your email address so I can send you an invite to the FB Support page, Mission SlimPossible. I can't add you by looking up your name. The private group settings are exactly that, private. The settings say you can only invite someone you're currently not friends with, by email.

Anyone can join this private group, but they have to be added or invited by a member. Who would have thought this would be so complicated. Yipes!

Hi there! I would love to participate in a support group. Dr. Husain is my surgeon as well. :-). I am unable to make it to the support groups at good Sam because I don't get off work in time.

Can I also be added to your Facebook group?

Hello! I am a total newbie here, just getting started in the process. I have 20 lbs to lose to be at the right BMI for surgery with Kaiser and Dr. Hussein. I am in the Denver/Aurora area and am both scare and excited for this journey. It helps so much to see people from Colorado who are going on this journey also.

I would love to join the Facebook group and be able to communicate with more people in the area!!

COGirl - I tried to re-add you but it says you were already invited. Maybe it was a temp thing with FB? Try again later because I'm seeing a few posts from other people. :( If that still doesn't work, send me a friend request on FB (Fran Catalan Porter), and I'll accept & add you to the group that way. We can always unfriend each other on FB, for privacy if you'd like after that (your call). Let's trick the system ;)

Lastchancerenee - I added you too. Have my meeting with the church tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. I will try to make these meetings at 6pm so it allows people time to get out of work.

Sbell35 - Welcome! Give me your email address & I'll send you an invite to the FB page. It's OK to be nervous. We all felt that way. But, you can do it & we'll be there to give you moral support! Hopefully, we'll be able to get a group started here in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

This sounds great! I live in Broomfield and would love a local support group. My surgeon is in Fort Collins- a little far for me. I am 2 weeks post op with VSG. Keep me posted. Thanks!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
