I was just banded on Friday. I'm a very private person. I considered not telling anyone, but ultimately decided to tell my immediate family and my boyfriend. I only told my immediate family because I needed help tacking down medical records for insurance approval. My boyfriend and I live together, so I really had no choice in telling him. I told him that if we didn't live together I probably would have hidden the surgery from him too. He ended up being very supportive. He drove me to the hospital at 5:30 am and was the first one to see me after surgery . He got me ice chips and karate chopped my shoulder for days when the gas pains were excruciating.

I still have no intention of telling casual friends or coworkers, because ultimately it's my body, my decision and I just don't want their scrutiny or input. But I'm really glad my boyfriend is there for me.

In retrospect, I would not have been able to hide the surgery from him without fabricating ban elaborate lie, because I've got four incision, lots of bruising and a radically modified diet now.

Martha - You mentioned the cost. You will notice that you are going to eat dramatically less than you did before surgery. There are even some ads on this site that mention that you get Protein shakes through your insurance company. I'm not sure if you would qualify for that, but I would check. I'm also not sure if you do shopping only for yourself or for others in your family.

Walmart has Protein Shakes and you can get a tub of powdered Protein for not much at all, they have different flavors. Also as far as the broth goes, if you go to the grocery store, you could probably get supermarket brand broth. I eat WAY less than I did before surgery. My portion of the grocery bill has gone down considerably. My thinking is that you may have to shop around, but I would bet that your grocery bill goes down for yourself. I do eat better than I did before surgery, but less.

I hope that this helps your anxiety. I know that there's a lot of people struggling out there and I hope that this will make you feel a little at ease.

@@Lili14 it's your body and your decision whether you want to tell anyone. That said, in my personal view and opinion if you are serious enough in a relationship you really should tell your significant other of things such as this. It's not a small thing and a part of any good relationship is being open and honest about anything important. I wouldn't dream of not telling my husband about such an important life change.

Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
