New, Nervous, and Anxious

Recommended Posts

I had 2 EGD's prior to my surgery. The first one was to look at everything. (They also found a small ulcer.) The second one was to make sure the ulcer healed prior to the surgery. I had a $100 co-pay for each one. I only lost 5 pounds during my two week pre-op diet. I didn't follow it very closely. Best of luck!!

Hey Brit. I am uninsured so I'm using CareCredit to cover surgery. It's almost $15,000 not including the cost of the EGD which is about $2k here in San Antonio. Maybe try getting the CareCredit to cover the deductible and any extra fees? I'd rather be paying the $3k deductible than the $1k/mo I'm going to have to pay for the next 18 months. Ya know?

As far as the pre-op diet goes, my doc has a specific brand he sells, as well. However, my Nut is all about saving money. She recommended several brands that could be used for shakes. Make your own or Atkins 4/day with a small meal (3oz meat and 1nonstarchy veggie) or 3 Premier Protein and 1 small meal. Atkins strawberry tastes like strawberry milk and the PP choc is pretty good. I didn't like the strawberry PP.

It is difficult to maintain the first few days when you're adjusting. If you can get through the first 3 days, you can make the two weeks. :) you just have to remember this is a step toward the new you. I have to keep reminding myself, as well. And, I have to admit I've added one or two extra ounces to the meat portion. In essence, you're just trying to get your body to hit Ketosis where it starts burning fat vs carbs. I've lost about 12 lbs in two weeks and I stillhave one week to go before the surgery. Ahhhh!!

Good luck!

I had an EGD a week and a half ago. Mine was a 700 dollars. I live in Northwest Arkansas. I didn't have to pay anything up-front. My deductible and out of pocket has been met though.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
