Portal moved ???

Recommended Posts

Hello... Im fairly new to lap banding... It's been approx. 5 months since surgery and today I went under fluroscopy for my second fill. However, It was not successful. I was informed after several pokes that my port turned around. He said I have to have surgery again to turn it around and most likely put it in another area, for easier access. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? My doctor was very vague and I did not feel good about his answer or body language... Any information would help ease my stress...

I have seen other posts regarding a flipped port. I understood most of them to say, the port was repositioned in the same muscle and restitched, in a day surgery, and some even in an office setting. They didn't sound like it was as big of a deal as your Dr. seems to find your situation.

Him saying he might move it for easier access, might be a good thing in the long run. I know mine is hard to hit---where as my SIL who was banded by the same Dr. same day ---hers is easy to see and feel----every body is different I guess.

Keep us posted on what they decide to do!

Kat

It can happen that the port (no "al" on that) flips. Perhaps that's what the doctor meant by "turned around".

The final complication specific to the LAP-BAND® System is problems that can arise from the port. Rarely, the port can flip over or develop a leak, which requires a simple outpatient procedure to resecure or replace the port.

The quote above is from a surgeon's site, but I know banded people who are able to forego the operation. With some manipulation, their ports can be accessed via regular means, even while flipped.

Yes, this can happen. I think you can have it positioned through general anastetic. Good luck. Julie

Do you mean local anaesthetic?

I think it is a fairly minor procedure ... but if you are worried, definitely ask the doctor for more details!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
