Remember to Drink Your Water - Lesson Learned

Recommended Posts

Since Sunday I was feeling very tired, woozy, lightheaded and I had a very bad headache. Well yesterday I went to the emergency room and I had a Migraine and I was very dehydrated. They gave me fluids and medication for my migraine. The emergency room physician told me that almost (not all) all weight loss patients are at one time or another dehydrated and alot of them are severely dehydrated.

I was carefully watching my Protein, my calories and trying to eat healthy and then try to get some exercise in. I wasn't watching my Water intake as closely. I thought that I was fine with my Water. I clearly was not.

I wanted to share this with all of my friends on here, maybe my mistake will help others to make sure that they drink the recommended amount of water they are supposed to.

How much Water do they recommend? I'm trying to drink at least two liters of water a day but I still feel a bit dehydrated. It's hard to drink even that amount. My skin is super dry and even my inner part of my hands look pruney (like I've been in water but I haven't). Googling those symptoms it says I'm likely dehydrated. I'll also drink about 16 oz of black coffee in the morning.

If in doubt, I am sure that you can call your surgeon's office and speak to a nurse over the phone and they should be able to tell you what's right for you. However, I copied this from the mayo Clinic website:

"How much Water do you need?

Every day you lose Water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.

So how much Fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day."

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
