In Case of the Unthinkable...

I think most of us were going through withdrawals from LBT yesterday. It went down while I was online about 3:30am PST.

I just set up a Yahoo! mail account that I thought we could all use in case something did happen to this board - we could go and check the mail at

lbtboard@yahoo.com

password: weightloss

to meet up again.

Just a thought, don't know if it will work or not. Otherwise I would imagine we would regroup through www.spotlighthealth.com or one of the Yahoo! bandster groups.

I missed you guys!!

:D

Alright Donali! Yup, yesterday was an awful day for me! I came here about every five minutes looking to see if it was up. Thank you so much for setting this up! You are a sweetie!

I thought it was my computer! I called the cable company guy and everything! He told me my computer had a virus! No joke! I almost took my computer to Best Buy to get cleaned out.

I even went as far as to go to the public library and tried to log on there and no luck. I knew then that my computer was'nt the problem. How often does that happen?

It's never happened to this site that I'm aware of. I have no idea how Alex has set up the hosting, and since he seems to be unavailable, I'm not sure how we can ensure that this site keeps going, year after year.

The Yahoo boards are free, and I don't think those groups require much maintenance if they're unmoderated, but this type of forum is SO much better. But it does usually cost money to buy an address ($35 a year with an initial 2 year commitment) and then you have to have hosting. There are some free hosting sites out there, but I don't know if they give enough memory to host a site like this.

So I can only imagine that this endeavor is costing Alex some money, and I don't know what happens if he ever decides he doesn't want to do it anymore, or God forbid something happens to him.

Alex? Are you out there? :D

Thanks Donali, that is a great idea. I jotted down the address and password. I emailed Lisa to see if it was just me or if she could not get on either yesterday . We are all a bunch of LBT addicts :D all having withdrawls yesterday !

I do recall it happening one other time in the last 5 months but it was only down for about 4 hours not the entire day.

Ok, so I'm not completely nuts. I tried a bajillion times to get here yesterday. Even if I don't post all that much, it's nice to read what's going on with other people, and offer help if I can.

As for hosting, I actually work for a hosting company. I would venture to guess that yesterday's outage maybe had something to do with all the flooding back East. The hosting company that is hosting this site is in NY. It's just a guess, I don't have anything that tells me this, but lots of things are having issues because of all that Water.

As for a 'backup'... if something were to happen, I could probably get a site set up in little time. It would take time to make it pretty like this one, but I could make a functional forum. Domains at my company are $15 a year, and hosting is $6.95 per month. I'm sure that plan would have enough space to host the forum, but it's the bandwidth that might be an issue. Anyhow, it's just an idea if something were to happen to our currently lovely site. :D

ANYHOW, it was nice to come back and find everything up and running this morning :D.

Hi Sarah -

That's good info to know.

Of course, it would be a crying shame to lose the wealth of knowledge contained in all the posts here... :D Funny how one never thinks of these things until there is some sort of outage...

I'm sure my paranoia will fade in a few days... Right???? :D

I thought work was kicking me off...I run 3 computers and while taking data on antennas, I read and surf.

This sight has been my support for over a year. I couldn't imagine life without it.:D

Donali, THANK YOU!! I'm sure you were all cursing me out yesterday, but let me assure you I was having the same problem as everyone else. My online time has been severely limited lately, and when I discovered last night that I still couldn't get here I started to comb through my old e-mails looking for contact information for Alex. (I'll get it now, you can be sure.) But I was interrupted yet again by a little girl needing attention, and I had to run.

What a joy to find you all here again this morning! :D And Donali, your idea is terrific. If LBT wasn't back up today I was going to post LOOKING FOR LBTers notices at Spotlight and on a couple of Yahoo lists.

I've asked Alex before about how he's supporting LBT and whether the day will come that he just wants to bow out. He said it's just a tiny part of what he carries on his servers at all times anyway and he couldn't see any reason why he'd change anything. But if nothing else, we absolutely need an e-mail list or something to let us keep in touch.

Whew!!

Wow, Alex, you are a saint for hosting this site! I didn't realize it was a part of your own servers.

Alexandra, so glad you have a way of contacting him. Please let him know that if at any time in the future he wants to bow out to please let us know - I'm sure we would want to somehow move this site if possible and keep it going with all the current history.

I was shocked yesterday too when I tried to get on and wasn't getting it. I had the same problem of no personal email addresses of others too. Glad I eventually caught up and discovered it was across the board. We do need to talk to Alex and find out what/ if he needs anything from all of us to keep this going. I would happily pitch in. I was so scared it would not come back online that I went and bought the domain name www.lapbandchat.com just in case I needed to start another board. So if something happens again and it doesn't come back online look for this board. I will certainly start one.

Yes if Alex ever decides he is not interested in continuing the site then I hope he contacts some of us and gives us the option of buying it from him.

My email address is Penni60@aol.com or Penni@pennimerrick.com

Not having access to all of you is like being cut off from your family. Heck, I was cut off from my band family. I don't get on the other boards much, but i love this one. You guys are the best and I would do whatever it took to keep this board running. I NEED YOU ALL.........

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
