Relying on Sliders - hungry all the time

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for 10 months and down 60 lbs. I had one fill 4 months ago. I've noticed within the last month that I've really started to rely on sliders to get through the day. I try to eat chicken; pork; beef and countless others to get my Protein but no matter how much I chew, I get stuck.

Out of fear I just stay away from those foods. Because I get hungry I reply on Soups, chips, ice cream, and tons of coffee. I don't know why this is happening all of a sudden but I'm wondering if I should get an unfill?

As I type this, I am feeling light headed. I will probably run home and make a Protein shake for supper. (boring)

What do you think I should do?

What does your surgeon say? Sure sounds like you're too tight? I've found with chicken and pork, I need some kind of sauce to help it slide through. Not to the point it's a slider food, but just enough to lube up the trip through. I can only eat tenderloin steak. Hamburger is no problem.

I use salsa, hollandaise, gravy, BBQ sauce(sparingly), catsup, olive oil, salad dressing. Not always, but just those times when my band is a little tight or the food is a little dry.

I went back a few month after I hit the green zone about 10 months out from surgery. I too thought I was too tight but it turns out I really never learned to eat slower with smaller bites. I had .5 taken out, but went back 5 months later and had it put back in. I'm at a stage where I could handle just a little fill but it's not going to happen. I'd rather be just shy of too tight and try to pay closer attention to the satiety signals.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
