So here I am this time last week I was in surgery. I got through my first week and I am so happy. I have lost 5 lbs, and I am proud of my 5 pounds, cause I really didn't think I would lose anything. I am however very sore still. My surgeon had made an incision approx. 3" in the front middle of my stomach and won't know till next week why? I thought it was supposed to be all small incisions. So anyway he used staples to close it up and they are so sore, and even in some places it looks like the staples are pulling at the skin? I have gone back to work and i sit at a desk all day so then when ever I move forward to pull into my desk my desk height and incision height is right at the same point so it rubs and yesterday I started bleeding so today I am working on staying back from my desk and pulling my keyboard forward. Also I tried a scrambled egg last night and yum that was good. I am slowly progressing. Did anyone else have the same issue with their incision and having the staples? I can't wait till it heals.

I didn't have any bleeding but my biggest one did have a lot of scabbing and it felt very irritated. An ice pack helped me more than anything.

My surgeon glued mine, thank God, I hate staples and having to have them removed. Wow! You are eating already? Different doctors..different ways....best of luck Four weeks out for me today and I get to add 1/4 c soft fruit or veggies

I had my staples removed on day 4 before I left the hospital, they replaced them with Steri strip. I agree the staples were awful, it felt like they were biting my insides. WOW, back at work at 1 week. I don't envy you that, I'm going to get at least 2 weeks off, possibly 3. I am working from home so it makes going back later a little easier for my employer. I can't believe your eating food. I don't have my follow up until the 1st at which time they said they'd talk about advancing my diet. It's really not a huge deal to me, I don't have an appetite or feel hungry (who just said that) so food isn't even an interest for me. Best of luck on your continued journey.

You know I figured an egg wouldn't hurt it's small enough, and I chewed it and chewed it? I didn't have any problems with it??? my post op appt is next week thursday and I am hoping they take them out then cause I do not want them in anymore!!! As for me going back to work, I wasn't in any real dire pain on sunday so I figured I would be ok, and that was the only time I took for it, thinking I would be ok, I kinda wish I took this week off but then I don't get to take that much time off this summer? I am looking forward to summer??? Well Thanks

Your 3" incision is where the large stapler went in. We all have at least 1 larger one.

Careful of eggs too early.. anything that might make you puke early out of post op can bust a staple and end up back in surgery.

Good luck, hope u feel well

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
