Question on Loose Skin

Recommended Posts

Striae = stretch marks

WOW, Nile, you lost a lot of weight for being banded in September. Was that after the banding or did you lose some weight beforehand.

Just wondering...You look great!!!

I've got 15-20 pounds down a month before surgery when i stopped using salt and drinking coke but thats it, i was obese all my life and could never drop a freaking pound... i think the lap band really saved my life (or at least my mental health)

I think it probably doesn't even matter if you exercise as far as determining whether or not you will have loose skin. I think it has to do mostly with genetics and also with how long you were overweight. Of course, we should exercise for our health. But if I were you I would just assume that I will have loose skin. And save up for plastic surgery if it's not something you can live with.

Rate of weight loss also makes a difference. Nice and slow (as opposed to really rapid) is going to mean less loose skin.

My mother lost over 100 pounds a few years ago and says she doesn't have much loose skin, just a little on her stomach and upper arms. I do think a lot depends on the person. I suspect that I will probably have to get my arms done at least by the time it is all over because I already have loose skin on them (not a lot but some, crepe like stuff)-- did before I even started losing weight. Of course I am going to work on toning those arms and doing what I can, but the loose skin won't shock me. My breasts have also been heading south since I was 15. I used to think the song, do your ears hang low, was really about breasts and ears was just a polite euphemism. At the rate they are going, it won't be long before I can tie them in a bow! Maybe I'll also want to do my thighs and tummy. We'll see when i get there. I have to lose the weight first.

So drink the fluids. Keep your skin moisturized. Tone up those muscles! And good luck.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
