My husband had lap band surgery. So far he has lost 80 lbs and is way too thin. He thinks he looks good but he's looking very anorexic. He never eats dinner with us and can barely hold food down. Often times at restaurants he will excuse himself to throw up in the bathroom. I am very concerned about his overall heath.

Where can we go for help?

Your husband's band is too full and he should get a tiny bit removed. I had a stomach virus last week that caused me to vomit (violently) so I had .5cc taken out to prevent damage from occuring. It turns out that .5 was a bit too much as I don't even feel like I have the band anymore, I can eat as much as I could pre-band and I'm making horrible food choices. By all estimations, I was looking too thin, too. It didn't take but a couple of days for the weight to start coming back and I'm glad I have an appointment next week to get a tiny fill. Rather than getting the full.5cc back, I'm going to ask for .25cc's which should have me just about perfect. Not so tight that I can't eat or that it comes back up but not so loose that I can go to a buffet and get my money's worth either.

Good luck to you both. I think getting a tiny unfill is your best option and it will make a tremendous difference.

Thank you for that. I'll suggest he do a mini unfill. Although he's very comfortable at this current weight which is a whole other issue within itself.

With your lap band is it common to throw up after a meal???

First things first. Throwing up is a major NO-NO. Any Doctor will tell you that. You can do major harm to yourself and your band. The Doctor may even take him in for surgery and remove the band to avoid him doing any harm to himself.

With that being said. You need to make an appointment to go in and both of you talk with the Doctor. Apparently both of you need to be reminded of the rules of the Band.

I don't mean to come off so harsh but there are consequences to the throwing up that could be serious.

I have had my Band for 8 years now and have never thrown up. I've had my fair share of being stuck and slimming, but never throwing up.

Good Luck to you and your husband.

Thank you. I had a feeling something is seriously wrong. We will go back to the doctor together so that I can hear first hand the rules of the band and help get my husband back on track. Thank you for your honestly. That is exactly why I joined this community!

Please do us a huge favor and keep us posted on how things go. We are all in this together and we worry and also rejoice for everyone. Kind of like we have a stake in everyone's journey.

Good Luck.

Suziecat, thank you for posting that. One fear that almost kept me from the band was the fear of vomiting. I even had a medical person tell me that nausea and vomiting are pretty common. Part of my fear was fed when the first support group I went to in a nearby town was attended by a husband and wife who freely admitted vomiting daily. They were clearly cheating the band. I'm glad to hear that you have made it all of these years wihout vomiting. I'm 52 years old, and one of my concerns is always long term health as I age. I'm fearful of damaging my body by vomiting with the band. I truly have not had any nausea since surgery, and haven't needed my anti nausea medicine. But I do get car sick, air sick, seasick, etc., so I worry about my upcoming trip this summer. Or getting the flu. These fears keep me compliant, at least so far. But I'm still on liquids.

When and how long has your Husband been banded , and how much did he weigh before and after being banded ,it takes tie for our heads to wrap around our images of being healthy and if he is excusing his self ask hi why , is he getting stuck , sick or eating to much , we all have different signals that let s know not to take the last bite and also , most of us have to take tie to eat , and also for some of us we are not able to drink with or meals and we do forget , most of us have to wait a while just to take a sip of a drink so things don't come back up sort of speak, well keep us updated and some of us do look unhealthy if we don' take care of our selves , hopefully he will look ore healthy , he is your husband , talk to him abo our concern .

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
