So how bad does it hurt when the drain tube is removed?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting mine removed tomorrow. Just wondering if most surgeons give you something first or if it's not that bad.

How long has it been in? Mine was in for 2 weeks and it didn't hurt. It just felt a little weird coming out.

They took mine out before I left the hospital. It was uncomfortable but nothing to bad. The left one hurt more because the nurse forgot to cut the stitch that was holding it in. Really getting the iv hurt more.

The nurse told my that it might sting for a few minutes but it didn't. It just felt really weird. I could feel it unraveling in my belly but it didn't hurt at all. They took mine out that day after my surgery so it wasn't in very long. Hope you are doing well!

I was really stressed about the drain too! But it was quick and didn't hurt very much just felt weird. I feel so much better having that thing removed!!

I'll be honest, mine hurt more than I expected based on what my other friends told me but It still wasn't that bad. It just felt like strong stomach cramps.

You can feel it being pulled from your abdomen out of your body-weird pulling sensation but then instant relief once it's out

This is exactly what it was like. The weirdest feeling I've ever experienced. It only took about 2 seconds, though, and it was all over. I felt 1000 times better immediately after it was out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
