Anyone ever have second thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am in the beginning of my journey. I keep going back and forth on what I should do. I know that I really should have this surgery but at the same time I am scared out of my mind. I have cancelled my appts a couple of times now..

Has anyone been scared or nervous like me? What did you do to help you make your final decision?

Hi All,

What did you do to help you make your final decision?

I probably ate more in frustration.....which assured me I would never stop it on my own.

Go ahead and do the testing and appointments. You'll get to visualize you state of health and hear what the Docs have to say and read and learn more about the process. What can it hurt. You can make your decision anytime.

Oh yes we all go through it. The morning of surgery I kept asking myself "you're really going to do this? Are you sure? It's not too late to back out" but then I remembered the past couple years and all the months of waiting and prepping and I quickly shushed those thoughts. I was very calm and happy going into surgery. Best decision ever. Good luck!

I called 2 days before surgery to cancel. Tried every excuse in the book to cancel. Even the morning of I was debating backing out. I went through with it and couldn't be happier. I have my 1 year checkup on Thursday. I had high blood pressure and was worried I wouldn't be around for my son if I didn't go through with surgery!

Ultimately this is your decision. Think about it long and hard. Think about what you want out of life, Only you can decide if this is right for you.

I see you are having surgery in Illinois, if you are up for it, Good Shepherd in Barrington (where I had surgery) has a great support group where you can go to meet others and ask questions.

I will for sure be finding a support group in my area :)

Everyone was "scared or nervous" like you. It's a very natural reaction. However, nearly everyone wishes they'd done this sooner when asked afterward. I can't believe how much better I feel and how much happier I am after losing all of this weight.

I was in the same position you are in cutiepie. I flip flopped and couldn't decide. I also cancelled my appointments a couple of times but always called and remade them. What helped me make the final decision was the fact that I realized that I have to love myself a lot to take this step to better myself. I just have to keep loving myself enough and having the courage to give myself this wonderful gift of surgery to better my life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
