Possible leak

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently moved and had to find a new bariatric clinic. I needed to have some taken out because it was too tight. I feel like they punctured my lapband. I had 1 cc taken out and now I'm at 6.5. I wouldn't even think about eating bread before because it always got stuck. I was able to eat 3 thin crust pizza slices the other night and 2 beers without feeling any discomfort. What is the best way to find out if they punctured it and,in general, who pays for this mistake if I need it replaced? :(.

Thanks!!

call your doctor and have him check the amount in your band. it should match your medical records.

I'd call your doctor, and discuss your concerns. Even though 1cc seems like such a small amount, it really can make a big difference when it comes to restriction (too tight vs. not enough). Maybe that 1cc was too much to take out?

Also, until you get things figured out, just make sure stay on track. Just because you CAN eat 3 pieces of pizza doesn't mean you should.

Good luck to you, and keep us updated.

I find that I can eat more than I thought I could as well...but I could only eat 1 thin slice the other day. I agree with everyone here and check in with your doctor. That way even if there isn't a problem happening with your band you will feel better just knowing. Hang in there Tpenny90!!!

It's not uncommon to fell less restriction with the removeal of Saline :(

A Baruim or Fill under Fluroscopy is more expensive then a Simple Flush and Fill where they take the Saline out of the band to check the Cc's it SHOULD MATCH what has been placed in the band If not then you probaly have a leak.

And unfortuantely YOU have to pay to repair a leak in most cases , but you can always ask your Band Dr. he might repair it for a reduced fee? but I doubt that they, do like to make $$.

You know I have to say that if the leak is caused by the Dr. or his staff they should have to pay to repair it.

If someone hit my car, or hurt me they would be paying for it and the same should be said of medical devices. I would really check into that and press the issue.

If the device itself is at fault the same should hold true, and I'm sure there is some legal precedence you might be able to research and use in your favor.

That said even a small amount of saline could change the restriction level, I am affected by .5cc, but like others said just because you can eat it doesn't mean you should do it. Of course that is easier to say then do as we all know too well. Perhaps they took more then 1cc and it's worth checking on for your peace of mind either way.

Good luck to you and let us know how your doing.

Unlikely it's a punctured tube. 1 CC is a lot of saline to remove. My doctor gave me .25 CC injections for my last 2 fills to get to the green zone. I could have eaten 3 slices before too.

But, just because you can doesn't mean you should. You may have to pay very close attention to those satiety signals till you get a few fills to take you back to the green zone.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
